gad Buy your oranges and grapefruit by Dianne Coates The Port High Music Department's annual citrus sale gets under- way this week. For the next few weeks, our musicians will be busy taking orders for the delicious Indian River citrus fruit from Florida. This campaign is the first in a series of fund-raising drives that will raise money for the music department. This is good quality fruit, as our many satisfied cust- omers from last year will agree. We sang O' Canada after which usual business was taken care of. Our first Wednesday afternnon euchre will be held at Latcham Centre, Oct- ober 3rd at 1:30. Come out and join us. We had only one birthday for September. Lunch was served by the commi- ttee which was enjoyed by all. Some of us stayed and played cards. Yearbook sucker sales started last Friday and will be held every Friday at noon hour from now on. All money from the sales go to support the 1985 Hilltop. Collections for our foreign children will be continuing this week in home room. We did very well, in last week's collections and we hope that this trend will continue. Anyone wishing to order a school jacket can do so outside the office at noon hour for a few days this week. Remember, all orders require a 50 per cent deposit. In sports, girls basket- ball is off to a good start. Our senior girls' team battled a tough Cart- wright team to a one point spread for their first victory of the season. Our juniors handily beat Cartwright while the midgets suff- ered a loss in their season opener. All three teams then travelled to Central. on Wednesday where the seniors took their turn on the loser's side. On the plus side, our midget and juniors both recorded victories. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, Oct. 2, 1984 -- 9 The senior boys' soccer team won their first game of the season last Monday, beating the Harwood squad. The junior team couldn't quite pull out a victory. LOSSA tennis was postponed until Thurs- day of last week. Sophia Brendon won a bronze medal in girls' singles, while Dana Forder and Heather Muir earned a silver in girls' doubles. Our boys' volleyball teams played against Central on Thursday. Both the junior and senior teams defeated their opponents. A week ago Saturday our girls' field hockey team put in a good showing at their tourna- ment in Toronto, plac- ing third in their pool. Towns powerless Residents of Ux- bridge, Port Perry and surrounding rural areas were without electrical power early Friday morning. Power was out for about an hour in Port Perry, four hours in Uxbridge, and longer in the rural areas. The cause of the failure was a downed main feeder line from the Cherrywood Trans- fer Station in Pickering.
