October 10, 1984 YARNS TO SPIN Comedy pokes fun at the good old- fashioned days Sombre George Hall (played by Beb Wheeler) was one of Cartwright Township's first settlers in a tiny community known then as Williamsburg. Bethany Schryburt, on Yarns to Spin: "Who were the towns- people of long ago? How can we relate to them? They dressed different- ly, had different methods of travel, entertainment, and diet. The lifestyle was indeed a far cry from 1984, but they still laughed, cried, loved and argued. Tempers flew and jokes were played, children had energy and every- * one had dreams. Since time began emotions have not changed nor should they change because they are the life blood of the human race". To celebrate Cart- Seme of the costumes worn in Yarns To Spin aren't costumes at all, but genuine antiques horded by Cartwright families for generations. Author, producer, and director of Yarns es wright's Sesquicentenn- ial, Bethany has written, produced and directed an entertaining one-act play called Yarns to Spin, a light- hearted look at the people who made Black- stock what it is today. A host of local people make up the cast and crew, including Craig Larmer, Janet Weir, Jason Kyte, Harold Wright, Glen Larmer, Vern Vogel, Jennifer Fletcher, Joel Schry- burt, Bob Wheeler, Jean Adams, Brent Mec- Laughlin, Susan Kyte, Nicole Gibson, Ralph Larmer, Blake Gunter, Dora Martyn, Dale Davis, Carl Gilbank and Chris Chorestecki. Janis Pashley is the show's assistant director, Cindy Leach the stage assistant, Bruce Mount- joy the travel assistant and Pat Sleep the Bi- centennial contact. . Previewed last Fri- day night at the Port Perry Nursing Home, Yarns to Spin can still be seen October 10 for the Blackstock Lioness Club at the Blackstock Rec. Centre; October 12 at 8 p.m. at the Rec. Centre; Oct. 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the Rec. Centre; and November 2 at 8 p.m. in Bethany, Ontario. For ticket information call 986-5015.
