PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. October 14, 1904 -- 27 Fashion flight gala takes off to New York Ashburn Area News by Mrs. E. Heron Our own Kirk Guild is planning another gala event on Tuesday, Nov. 13th at both 2:00 and 8:00 p.m. "Flight into Fashion' will carry the theme of an airplance trip throughout the pro- gram, including the grand prize of an expense paid weekend flight to New York City. The ladies Bible Class met last Wednesday evening at the home of Margaret Davis. Aldeen Wick, presid- ent, opened the meeting with a lovely Thanks- giving Worship Service, entitled 'Giving Thanks Always'. And also read two short Thanksgiving poems. After the business part of the meeting was dealth with, Muriel Fisher gave the pro- gram. Continuing on with the stories of the women of the Bible, Muriel chose 'Salome', wife of Zebedee. There was a short thought exchange period after which was also very helpful. The hostess served a lovely lunch and a visit was enjoyed. Mrs. Ruth Purdy of Mono Centre was a guest over the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Doug Ashton, Ronald and Arnold. Mr. and Mrs. Theo Knight and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Pay- nter enjoyed a bus trip to the Grand Ole' Opey at Nashville last week. Mr. and Mrs. W. Gardner and Jean spent Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs. Rees Williams at Don Mills. Visitors with the Gardners this past weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Yendle and children, Amanda and Douglas of Guelph. Several in this area attended the auction sale of Mrs. Alma English of Woodville. Mrs. English taught school in Ashburn in the early 1930's. She was then Miss Alma O'Neil and she still has many friends here. It was Communion Sunday at Burns Church last Sunday morning. Rev. McEntyre's mess- age was "Belonging to A Church, Convience or covernant?"' The scriptures were read by Mark Wood and Margaret Davis. Next Sunday will be a very special day at Burns. It is the 135th Anniver- sary. The services will be at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The guest minister will be Rev. Ted Stevens of Ottawa, formerly of Brooklin. Rev. Stevens will preach at both services. In the morning Mrs. Maureen Reid will be the guest soloist and in the evening the Youth Choir of St. Andrews Church, Scarborough, will sing. Everyone is cordially welcome to these services.
