Prince Albert sends all the best to you and your baby son. The regular meeting of the Prince Albert UCW meet on Wed. Oct. 10 at the United Church. Nineteen members answered the roll call. Devotion was done by Beth Pereman, Ruby Dearborne and Dorthy Hope. Guest speakers for the evening were two ladies from Auberge Shelter Centre in Oshawa. Karen Carr and Mary Dumais gave a very interesting and informative talk on the centre, their needs and the help they give. Business saw the Beef Supper coming up on October 28 in the United Church basement with three settings at 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30. Tickets are on sale and going fast. And on Dec. 17 at 12 noon the UCW will serve the Freenaly Visitors a Christmas Dinner. The Regional meeting is on Oct. 15 and 16 in Ajax, Ontario. A beautiful lunch was served by Minnie Martin, Pat Love and Aileen Olsen. Next meeting is on Nov. 14, hope to see you there. And don't forget to say "Happy Birthday" to Hazel Brooks. Ladies high was Pearl Gostick, second was Verna Draper and low was Marlene Skinner and I am very pleased to see the men finally pulling up their socks. High was Irwin Kydd, second was Richard Manns and low was Roy Werry. Please do come out next Thurs- day evening Oct. 18 and (it starts at 8 sharp. Sorry to report that Mrs. David McCullock from Quaker Rd. is a patient in Port Perry Hospital. She underwent surgery on Tuesday Oct. 16. Belated Happy Birth- day wishes to 6 year old Melissa Pereman over on Hurd St. Melissa was 6 on Thanksgiving week- end and enjoyed the celebrations with her parents and brother while they were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Jim McGregor and family at Braeside, Ontario. A number of people from Prince Albert were in Blackstock on Saturday and enjoyed the Bicentennial activi- ties over there. The Fair Grounds was a very busy place with some- thing going on in all- three buildings. The humorous Yarns to Spin was very well done and the Pork Barbeque at night put on by the Lions club was well attended. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Murphy were in Hamil- ton on Saturday and attended the wedding of Nancy De Franceso and Dusty Davies. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Sweetman had a sur- prise visit from John and Chris Ralston of Bowmanville on Sat- urday. They hadn't seen them in 25 years. I knew you were a hard person to find Ross - but 25 years won hats off to the Ralstons. Mr. and Mrs. Les Beacock paid a visit to Brooklin one day recent- ly and called on Mr. and Mrs. Grant Franklin. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Danny McClure who were married on Saturday, Oct. 13 in the Columbus United Church. Best of luck to you both from Prince Albert. Welcome to another exciting high school news report from PPHS. For those of you who didn't order a yearbook last week, they will be on sale again in one month. Remember to save up a minimum down payment of $5.00 for next month's sale. There will be a soccer game on Thursday the 18th and if you have an Activity Card, you can get out of classes early on Thursday afternoon to go cheer on our team rebels. The student council will be selling hot chocolate at the amazing price of 10 cents per cup! You can't . beat that. Be sure to get an Activity Card before Thursday. Activity Cards sell at $5.00 each. There will be a dance this Friday night at the - cost of $3.00 with an activity card, and $4.00 without. Not only do you get to see a soccer game with an activity card, but you can also save yourself money if you go to the dance! Wow! It's a Sadie Hawkins, so get out there girls and ask your favourite guys! A suggestion box is being placed in the office so that students can have input into what goes on at school. Last week the Grade Twelve Phys Ed students took to the Pineridge Golf Course to put to the test the golf skills taught to them by Mr. Rodway, Mrs. Smith and Mr. Di Diomete. Censor chairman speaks The Oshawa YWCA is holding the third Annual Durham Region Women of Distinction Awards Dinner on November 1 at the Holiday Inn in Oshawa. : Awards will be pre- sented to women who have made exceptional contributions to the community in three categories: Arts, Community Service and Women in the Work- place. The deadline for nominations was Oct- ober 12. The keynote speaker will be Mrs. Mary Brown, Chair- person of the Ontario Censor Board. Mary Brown graduat- ed as a Gold Medallist in Arts and Sciences from the University of Tor- onto in 1951. She taught English and History for two years prior to her marriage. Mrs. Brown is the mother of six children. Mary Brown served as a member of the executive of the Univer- sity of Toronto Alumni Association where she directed a Faculty Liaison Program and established the first Alumni Faculty Award. She acted as co-ordin- ator and Chief of Proto- col for an International Conference on Third World Development held at the Toronto University in 1975. Mrs. Brown was the first woman Board member of the Metropo- litan Toronto High School Commission. She also served as a member of the Steering Committee for Christian Jewish Dialogue in Metropolitan Toronto and was a member of the Senate of the Uni- versity of Toronto, St. Michaels' College. In 1975, Mary Brown joined the External Affairs Department of - the University of Toronto as Assistant Director of Alumni Affairs. In this capacity she established Branch Associations in Canada and the United States and co-ordinated pro- grams for 180,000 grad- uates as well as direct- ing student liaison activities. In 1977, she joined the Theatres Branch, Min- istry of Consumer and Commercial Relations as a Board Member. she became Assistant Director of the Branct in 1979 and in 1980 was appointed Director of Theatres Branch anc Chairperson of the Ont ario Censor Board.
