vse -- editorial comments (continued) Port Perry Star accepted award for second place in the premier awards for the best advertising pro- gram, at the OCNA fall meeting last week in Niagara Falls. Full credit for these awards must go to the members of our creative advertising department, Debbie McEachern and Valerie Mappin, who each week bring alive the pages of the Star with their advertising creations. The ultimate goal of a good community newspaper is to provide news, and whether it be in the form of editorials or advertising, it is the goal of the Port Perry Star to support and enhance the best interests of the community. And that is exactly what we are striving to do. chatterbox (continued) years and nobody ever bothered him until a month or so ago. And then, wham, he disappeared. Whoever stole him must be truly heartless. I hate being alone at home on a Saturday night when it seems like the rest of the world is out hav- ing a good time. I hate it when my boyfriend says he's going to call, and he does, except he's a cou- ple of hours late and I have to wait. Which I hate. I hate being told what to do, I really do. Now I realize that sounds childish and silly 'cause everybody has to do what they're told every now and then, but that doesn't mean I like it. And regardless of how I feel, I usually do what I'm told. Like writing this Chatterbox. I even did it with a smile on my face. Great Scugog Spook Caper Are you ready for a spooky good time? If you're the type that craves a little adventure, reads Edgar Allan Poe and wishes Halloween would come more than once a year, you're exactly the sort of person who will get a thrill out of The Great Scugog Spook Caper. This Halloween, after your kiddies have trick or treated, and are safely into bed, treat (or trick) yourself to some titillating fun. On Wednesday October 31 at 8 p.m., Emiel's Place will be overflowing with all sorts of costumed ghouls, all over the age of 19, and all prepared for a hair-raising experience. The Great Scugog Spook Caper begins with Nectar of Vampire Cocktails and Bat Bone and Blood Soup. Then, as the excitement mounts, so does the food, with Frankenstein Beef, Count's Pudding, Boo Berry Pie, Witches Brew and Ghostly Mints. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes (which are mandatory) and when every ghoul is good and ready, the whole gang will head out for a Mystery Bus Tour. Scarey, huh? Tickets are $29.95 per couple, same price as last year, and are available at Emiel's Place. But watch out, they're limited and going fast. All proceeds will go to an as yet undecided charity.
