The CEC activities are part of a board-wide Durham PD Day. The day has been organized by the Durham Elemen- tary Teachers Associa- tion (DETA), District 17 of the Ontario Teachers Federation (OSSTF) and the CEC. It is paid for by the teachers themselves. The CEC activities will take place at Anderson Collegiate, Whitby, and will open with a keynote address by Prof. Doreen Kronick of York Univer- sity. The convention theme was "Celebrating to- gether in Ontario" and dealt also with "What is the vision for our Fu- ture?" Many excellent reports were given |by Convenors of Standing Committes, showing their dedication to the many worthy endeavors in which Women's In- stitute are involved. We were honoured to have Hon. Dennis Tim- brell as our guest speaker at the Tuesday evening banquet, with added musical enter- tainment - all in all - a most successful conven- tion! The program for our November meeting was AN TUESDAYS 6:45 P.M. planned by Miss Alice Dodd's group, who had arranged to have Mrs. Jean (Samells) Bailey of Oshawa as our guest speaker. Jean gave a most interesting acc- ount of the start of 4-H Club work in this area, in which she and her mother, Mrs. Alpha Samells, were very ac- tive participants. Sev- eral of our members who were present had also been actively in- volved in this work in the 40's and 50's, and enjoyed reminiscing with Jean about those activities. Alice dealt ably with the motto "Impression without expression leads to depression' in which she drew our attention to the achieve- ments of Terry Fox in the face of great diff- iculties. Sincere appre- ciation was expressed by the group to Jean and Alice for providing us with such an inter- esting and worthwhile program! Our December mee- ting will take the form of a pot luck luncheon at 12:30 p.m. with ex- change of home-made Christmas cookies, also each member is asked to bring a decoration for a parcel to be given by Operation Scugog. The meeting adjourned followed by a lovely lunch provided by the group in charge. BUYING or SELLING?
