Myrtle prepares to PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, Dec. 4, 1984 -- 39 celebrate Jesus Christ by Anne Franklin Myrtle United Church Sunday School children, under the capable direction of Mrs. Betty Ann Manuel, began the first of their beautiful Advent Services on Sun- day, Dec. 2nd. The Rev. Dr. lan MacRury has found his way into the hearts of our children and adults alike. Everyone is invited to share in our worship services on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Quoting Dr. MacRury's words: "In this season of Advent which we are approach- ing, we will be prepar- ing to celebrate Christmas - the birth of Christ, a festival which has a universal signif- icance and appeal. This is perhaps a good time for you to make a new beginning." The Myrtle UCW will hold their Christmas meeting at the home of Mrs. Anne Budd on Tuesday, December 11th at 8:00 p.m. We will have a pot luck lunch- eon. Don't forget your gift which will be donat- ed to Auberge Shelter and Support Services for Battered Women and Children. Our Christmas Con- cert will be held on December 15th beginn- ing with a pot luck supper at 5:30 p.m. December 16th is White Gift Sunday. Each member is asked to bring an unperishable food item wrapped in white tissne Our thoughts go out to some of our seniors who have not been enjoying the best of health lately. We wish you improved health so you may enjoy the holiday festivities. Christmas lights are beginning to beautify the village of Myrtle. A nice sight as you are driving along Hwy. No. 12. All three choirs ready at Cartwright Public School All three of the choirs are busy preparing for the annual Christmas Concert. The school has now started a reading program. Every student has to at least read two novels each month. On Thursday, Nov- ember 29th, both the grade five classes went to Black Creek Pioneer Village, to learn all about the Pioneer's way of celebrating Christmas. Last Wed- nesday, November 28th the grade three classes went to a prologue in Port Perry. The school had a hot dog sale on November 23. On Tues- day, November the 27th, Mr. Bradt, a Caesarea Fireman, came to the school for a present- ation for the grade five classes on fire prevent- ion. April and Susan Comb hair, brush teeth performed at the school on November 21 - the kindergarten classes and up to grade four attended the present- ation. Remembrance Day was discussed in all classrooms, along with a presentation by the Legion for the grade six classes. for graduation photos by Christine Bauer All university tours are over. They ended last week. University Applications were due December 3rd. Grad photos are being taken starting Dec. 7th. Make sure you check your time for your sitting. Speaking of pictures, we had the Button Machine last week. Don't feel too bad if you missed it because it was a success and will be back! Look for a great picture and save it till the next time. Handel's Messiah A 77 voice community choir will ring out ti- dings of "Peace on Earth" and 'Goodwill to Men" when they present Handel's Messiah, at Trinity Un- ited Church in Uxbridge on December 18 and 19. Director Thomas Baker will have the singers join forces with a professional orchestra to bring the Christmas story in song. The orchestra will in- clude violins, violas, harpsichord, cello, bass, trumpet, timpani, bass- oon and oboe. Baker has had the choir rehearsing for the past eight weeks in preparation for the Tuesday and Wednes- day night concerts. Starting time is 8:00 o'clock on both nights.
