Red Jol AG MRL i { £ i | AN A il Port Perry Legion- aires represented their town very well as they went all the way un- defeated in five games to win their first tourna- ment of the year in Ernestown. Their first game was played on Nov. 30 and they played Godfrey to a 6-3 victory. Clair Cornish scored first for Port unassisted. Two-and-a-half minutes later Godfrey scored but Sean Bradbury answer- ed a minute later with a beautiful goal on an excellent passing play with Jarett Harman and Clair Cornish assisting. Godfrey scored again and Port retaliated with three more goals, all by Clair Cornish. Jason Towns assisted on Clair's second goal and Jarett Harman and Danny Maw assisted on the third goal. Godfrey again scored and Cornish finished off the scoring with an un- assisted goal. The final score was 6-3. Jamie Brown did an excellent job in goal. Port loses Stone Realty played 2 games this weekend. On Saturday night Bow- manville was leading 3-0 after the second period but at 7:09 in the third Adam Cummings put one by the Bowmanville goalie on a pass from Graham Sullivan and John Ennis. Our team came right back at 13:41 with John Ennis slamm- ing one in the bottom right hand corner of the net. Assists weit to Graham Sullivan and Brett Puckrin. The final score was held to 4-2 for Bowmanville. Juniors up 5-4 On Wednesday Dec- ember 5, the Sportsland Juniors travelled to Sun- derland. Despite being one of the longest games in memory we came away victorious. Colleen Yorke opened the scoring in the first period on an assist from Tina Soomre. Although Sunderland tied it up Tina soon put us ahead with an un- assisted goal. Heidi Meisner completed the scoring in the first period with assists from Vicki Reid and Tina. Vicki scored unassist- ed in the second period with Heidi scoring the final goal from Val White. Terry Childs played well in goal keeping us on the winning end of a 5-4 score. Sunday however, was a different story when the girls met Mariposa on home ice and came away on the short end of a 7-2 score. Heidi scored our only goals assisted on both by Vicki Reid. Port vs. Oshawa Canadians The next day Port wallopped the Oshawa Canadians 7-0 and the scorers were Danny Maw 1 goal, 1 assist; Clair Cornish 4 goals, 2 assists; Jarett Harman 1 goal, 1 assist; Eric Grosvenor 1 goal, 2 assists; Sean Bradbury 2 assists and Jan Heyes 1 assist. Shutout for Paul Kett. Port vs. Kanata After a night's rest in the hotel, Port came out flying and eliminated Kanata 5-0. The scorers for Port were Cornish 1 goal, 1 assist; Jarett Harman 1 goal; Eric Grosvenor 1 goal, 2 assists; Danny Sluggett 1 goal; Sean Bradbury 1 and Clair goal, Jan Heyes 2 assists; Danny Maw 1 assist and Chris Legere 1 assist. Paul Kett picked up his second shutout of the tourna- ment. Port vs. Napanee It was the same day and their second game but that didn't hold them back the least bit as they eliminated Nap- anee 2-0. The game was very tense and exciting Cornish scored both of Port's goals. The first goal was unassisted and Maw and Steve Staniland assisted on the second goal. Jamie Brown in goal was determined to match Paul Kett's effort and performed like a pro. Congratulations on a well-earned shutout Jamie. The Final Port vs. Ernestown The boys were given a thirty minute rest before being introduced under the spotlight. Clair Cornish started the scoring for Port in the first period and Sean Bradbury assisted. Still in the first period Ernestown tied it up but two minutes into the second period, Clair Cornish put Port in front once more. Three minutes later Ernes- town scored to tie it up and once more Clair Cornish scored to put Port in front, Chris Legere assisted. Five minutes into the third period Ernestown tied it PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. December 11, 1984 -- 27 Pee Wee Legionaires win the gold medals up and back came Port to put themselves ahead again on a goal scored by Jarett Harman assisted by Danny Maw. With thirty-four seconds to go on a power-play Ernestown tied it up but that didn't harm Port's courage only made them think a little. Off the face-off with a little trouble in the process, Clair Cornish made a rush and with a quick wrist shot hit the top corner with four seconds to go. Jarett Harman and Chris Legere assisted. Special congratulations to Clair Cornish as he was awarded the M.V.P. of the Tournament. Final score Port Perry 5, Ernestown 4 and a well deserved championship for the Port Legion- aires. Port Hosts Port Hope On Saturday Dec. 8 the Legionaires hosted Port Hope and defeated them 8-2. Eric Gros- venor started the scor- ing for Port only 2 minutes into the game, Clair Cornish assisted. Port Hope scored on a looping shot from out- side the blue line that fooled Paul Kett, the Port Perry goaltender. Port Perry then answer- ed with five more goals, the scorers were: Mark Andrews 1 goal; Danny Maw 2 goals, 1 assist; Jan Heyes 1 goal; Sean Bradbury 1 goal; Clair Cornish 3 assists; Jarett Harman 1 assist. Port Hope again scored and then in the third period Jarett Harman scored and Danny Maw assist- ed on the goal and Mike Feasby scored an un- assisted goal to finish the scoring. Port Travels to Oshawa On Sunday Dec. 9 the Port Perry Legionaires travelled to Oshawa only to be defeated 4-2. Oshawa started the scoring with two goals then Port finally scored their first of the game. Jan Heyes picked up a pass from Clair Cornish who was fed by Eric Grosvenor.
