Heron Christmas greetings! to all our readers, The Ashburn WMS group and the ladies bible class invited the men and they all enjoy- ed a delicious pot luck dinner in the church hall last Wednesday evening, After dinner, with Lois Daw and Jean McEntyre in charge everyone enjoyed play- ing some fun and brain working games and Christmas carols were sung. Rev. McEntyre sang 2 lovely Christmas solos. The evening was end- May all good things come your way as you revel in the festivities of this special holiday. Thanks for your valued support! RAY'S TOWING ed with a beautiful candlelighting worship service with Fred Daw, Theo Knight, Ted Heron, Jean McEntyre and Aldine Wick bring- ing out the real meaning of the celebration of Christmas. Nellie Hop- kins closed with prayer. Since it was Rev. and Mrs. McEntyre's 25th wedding anniversary, a gift on behalf of the congregation was pre- sented to them by Nellie Hopkins and Hugh Knight with gratitude and best wishes. There were eight tables of euchre played at the party last Thurs- day evening in the Community Centre. The ladies who won prizes were Kay Brown, Ruby Birkett. Bessie Spencer. The men's prizes went " to Don Wood, Joan Fleming, Jack Skelding and Ken Whittington got the most lone hands. The door prize was won by Erma Wood and the 50-50 draw went to Nancy Skelding. The next euchre party will be on Dec. 27th. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Fisher and son Harold, entertained the Senior Choir last Thursday after choir practise and everyone enjoyed sing- ing Christmas music, May the spirit and joyous traditions of Christmas embrace you and yours this holiday. The Christmas Con- cert in the Centre was well attended on Friday evening. Mr. Ross Batton acted as Chair- man. The little ones from the Moms and Tots program sang Jingle Bells and were cute with their little red elf hats. The Ashburn cub group under the direc- tion of Jackie Wright did a pantomine and sang Christmas carols with Moyra Griffin accom- panying them on the guitar. The girls and boys from the village did a Merry Christmas acrostic that said Christmas Wishes to all. The 1st Ashburn Scout group with Brian Irvine did a number of skits. Diane Batten and Moyra Griffin, our mail carrier and post- mistress, did a very humorous skit on "A Morning in the Post office." Santa arrived with treats for all the children. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ashton visited with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Vicers of Fergus recently. A lovely surprise visit was had at the Heron home last Saturday when Mr. and Mrs. Gould Barton of Ux- bridge called. Gould taught school at Ash- burn over 50 years ago. * Misses Amy and Katie Daw of Whitby visited with their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Fred Daw on the weekend. Douglas Humphrey of Peterborough and Chris of Toronto are spending holidays at their home here. A Happy "Birthday Party for Jesus' was held in the church school last Sunday morning when carols were sung and the classes of Ruth Oliver, Catherine Humphrey a Florence Ashton eac did a nice Christmas number. Mr. Bob Hooper of Oshawa sang several pieces. Muffins, coffee and orange juice was enjoy- ed by all and the bags of candy. Next Sunday Church School will be the usual with classes for every- one at 10 a.m. and Christmas Sunday Service at 11:15. Every- one is welcome. On Christmas Eve there will be a Candle- lighting Service, come and bring your family and friends.
