Port Perry Broombal league action PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, Dec. 18, 1984 -- 5a Teams battle to move up in standings Beacock's -5 Oddfellows - 0 This game was the battle of the day as these two clubs were fighting for sole possess- ion of third place in the league. Going into the affair Beacock"s were up by one point and with the win pulled ahead by 3. Right off the opening face-off Beacock's put the pressure on in the Oddfellow's end before Dave Dalton picked up a rebound from a shot by Ron Redman and put it in the net - 38 seconds into the game. The middle section of the period remained score- less until Tom Wotten and Steve Hawes Novice get their first league win by Brenda LeFort On Friday December 14, the Pearce Auction- eers hosted the Bow- manville Bulls but were defeated in a fast skat- ing game. Port was down 3-0 until midway through the 2nd period when Sandy Mark put one behind the Bowman- ville goalie assisted by Davy Bourgeois. Bowmanville scored 2 more during the 2nd period but with 20 seconds remaining Brent Harper received a well executed pass from defenceman Andrew Jones an broke through the Bowman- ville defense to score Port's final goal. Bow- manville netted their final goal in the 3rd period ending the game in a 6-2 loss. On Sunday the Novice No. 1's travelled to Uxbridge and came up with their first league win. Late in the first period, Port opened the scoring with a goal by Davy Bourgeois from a scramble in front of the net. The line of Scott Heasman, Sandy Mark and Davy Bourgeois played well and kept the Uxbridge goalie busy during their shifts. Mid- way through the second period, Uxbridge scored their lone goal of the game. The Pearce Auction- eers kept the pressure on in the third period and the scoreboard re- flected their efforts. With 3 minutes gone, Davy Bourgeois netted his second of the game with well earned assists going to Sandy Mark and Jay King. Then rg through the period Brent Harper stole the puck from Uxbridge, broke away and scored with the period drawing to a close and Uxbridge short-handed, Port's Davy Bourgeois com- pleted his hat trick assisted by Brett Law- son ending the game with a 4-1 victory. These 2 teams were well matched and the fans enjoyed many good end to end plays. Mike Pashley was once again outstanding in net. Andrew Jones led the defensive squad and was very effective pro- tecting Port's net, Graham Holt also play- ed a fine game on wing breaking up many of Uxbridge's passing plays. Great game boys! Three minutes later Tom Carroll on an unassisted effort made the score 2-0. Brian's got their lone goal by the end of the first as Ken St. Amant sent Joe Dephillipis in on goal alone. Dephillipis had a chance to tie the score later as he had Beer out of the net but hit the goal post on his effort. Gore- ski's clicked for four in the second period as they wore down the short-handed Brian's unit. Shelemba got two in a row to start the period with assists going to Bruce Woodrow and Bart Wagar. Tim Ashbridge from Tom Carroll, and Dan Taylor from Wagar rounded out the scoring. Tweens prevail with victory in Sunderland On Wednesday Dec. 12, the Port Perry Chris Allen Aluminum Tweens travelled to Sunderland for a league game. Although the reffing was poor, and the girls were without a coach for the second period, they came up big and won by a score of 11-0. Before the period finished Utica came back with another one as Renel Hebert connected from Ilan Down. In a span of :12 seconds in the first frame, Utica pulled away as Bruce Smith assisted Kevin Ibbittson before Chester Down Lisa Levy 2 goals; Connie Norton 1 goal, 1 assist; Heather Law- rence and Jennifer Pelow each with 1 goal while Jackie Durham, Michelle Beare, Melissa Moehring and Rachel Traynor each received 1 assist. notched one from brother Murray. Murray Down added a second assist to his stats when he helped Scott Dezan make it 5-0. The sixth and final goal came off the broom of Ibbittson aided by Jack Monsma.
