Ashburn man a winner Lloyd Harbron, Ashburn, was the winner of the Durham West 150 Bushel Corn Club in 1984, with a yield of 168.1 bushels per acre. Mr. Harbron received the Mac Allbright Trophy, a wrist watch from the Durham West, Rama and Mara Soil and Crop Improvement Associa- tion, and a unit of Pioneer Seed Corn from Robert Hunter Farms Ltd. for his efforts. In se- cond place was Bill Robinson, Brooklin with a yield of 164.7 followed by Bob Hunter, Brooklin in third place with a yield of 163.7. Average yield for the 36 farmers in the com- petition was 130.0 bushels of shelled corn per acre at 15.5 per cent moisture. Yields were taken on a three acre plot, with each contestant using the variety of his choice, and any cultural practices at this disposal to produce the highest possible yield. The club was brought to a conclusion with an Awards' Night and Ban- quet in the Wick Presbyterian Church basement on the evening of Thursday, November 29th.
