Housing developments put on back burner Three housing deve- lopments in Prince Albert will most likely be put on the back burner 'when Durham Region council meets in Whitby this week. i The Region's planning committee has recom- mended that the three proposals be denied on the grounds that exist- ing water services are not adequate. A total of 39 single family lots are involved ~ in the three projects, two of which are located on the southwest corner of King and Simcoe Streets, and the third on the east side of Union Avenue, north of King Street. They are owned by Carnovale Construct- ion, Somerville-Kedron Developments and B.F. (Pat) Morrow. - The Region estimates. it will cost $101,000 to up-grade the water lines for construction of the new homes, and the Region will not pay for the work at this time. The Region's planning department says in a report to council that the existing watermains "in the area "do not have sufficient adequate cap- acity, especially with regard to fire protection "to accommodate the "proposed develop- "ments." A representative for the developer will be ism mn Regional Council meet. ing this week to try to .persuade the members to re-consider. Arena passes inspection test with flying colours The Scugog Arena in Port Perry passed with flying colours when members of the Public Institutions Inspection Panel toured the facility of Durham Road 8 last November. In a report issued in December, the Inspec- tion Panel found very lit- tle to criticize at the arena. Washrooms, dressing rooms,, and the stands were found to be clean, in good repair and recently painted. Appliances, grill and sink facilities of the snack bar were also found to be clean and ef- ficiently arranged. The Panel found that the arena is using measures to conserve energy, and the Facilitv "is well set up for access by the handicapped." The one slightly negative comment in the Panel's report concerned fire extinguishers, some of which had not been in- spected since March 1983, and others near the .dressing rooms did not have tags which indicate when they were last in- spected. But the report did say the fire éx- Talk about the big one that got away...
