However, he said he voted in the affirmative to keep the by-law on the table until the next meeting when councillor Hunter would be in attendance. The proposed by-law presented to council on Monday refers only to certain sidewalks in Ward Two (Port Perry). An attached schedule outlines the streets in Port Perry and parts of Prince Albert where the by-laws will apply. They include major routes such as Queen, Lilla, Simcoe and Scugog Streets and portions of several side streets in the residential core of the community. CARS In Stock Priced to Sell! PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. February 12, 1985 -- 9 All sidewalks con- structed in the past ten years must be kept clean by the property owner. There will be a couple of minor adjustments to the schedule over the next week. Failure to comply with the by-law could mean the Township hiring so- meone to do the work and - billing the tax roll for that property owner. Repeated failure to com- ply could see court action where conviction carries a $200 maximum fine. There is also a provi- sion in the by-law calling on property owners to keep ice off roofs if it | By-law controversial poses a threat to pedestrians. Township works superintendent Ronn MacDonald told the meeting Monday that Scugog has about 300 meters of sidewalks in front of municipally- owned property that must be cleared by the Township. Mayor Taylor wanted to know what the per household cost would be if the Township cleaned all the designated sidewalks in Ward Two. Mr. MacDonald said it would be very difficult to estimate the costs over a winter. The by-law which received two readings on Monday calls on the pro- perty owner to clear the sidewalk within 24 hours after every fall of snow, or fall of hail and rain which freezes. If the sidewalk cannot be cleaned of ice, the pro- perty owner will have the responsibility to place sand or ashes on it. The Township will be notifying both the MTC and Durham Region to ask their snow plow operators to use caution and not plow snow onto sidewalks.
