February 19, 1985 -- 21 MoJacks The Port Perry Malmont Farms Atoms won the an- nual tournament here Saturday sponsored by Port Perry Lions Club. The team captured wins of 3-2 over Ux- bridge, 6-0 over Alliston, and 3-0 over Ernestown in the final. A toms annual Tournament and ~ came away with the championship by defeating a strong team from Ernestown in the final game by a score of Graeme Smyth (left) of Ernestown was named final goal MVP as he faced 29 Port Perry shots. The tournament was well attended and had teams represeting Ux- bridge, Oshawa Bruins, Flamboro, St. Clair Beach, Alliston, Georgetown and Ernestown. In game No. 1 the Mal- mont Farm Atoms had their work cut out for them as they played Ux- bridge and came away with a very close 3-2 victory. In the first period Jeff Parry opened the scoring with the assist going to Peter King and Steve Laird. In the second period Jason Cochrane scored with the assist going to Chad Garvock. In the third period Jeff Parry scored his second of the game which prov- ed to be the winning goal with the assist going to Duane Empringham. In game No.2 the Mal- - mont Farms Atoms played a team from Alliston and skated to an easy 6-0 victory. In the first period Brad Moase scored .with the assist going to Gavin Cochrane and Jason Cochrane. In the second period the Green Machine exploded for 5 unanswered goals. At 6:09 Brad Moase scored his second of the game with the assist going to Jason Cochrane. At 5:11 Steve Laird scored an unassisted goal which was a super effort on his que, Steve Laird, Sean McEnaney, Chad Garvock. At 3:19 Jason Cochrane scored his se- cond of the game with the assist going to Jeff Andrews and Steve Laird. With only 2 minutes remaining in the period Jeff Parry scored the final goal on an unassisted effort. Game No.3 Championship Game In this game the Mal- mont Farms Atoms were pitted against an old rival from Ernestown D against the wall by John B. McClelland Time is fast out for the Port Perry MoJacks. Following a pair of ~ weekend 'losses to the Bowmanville Eagles, the MoJacks trail the best of seven semi-final Junior C series three games to none. Game four is slated for Wednesday night (Feb, 20) at the Scugog Arena with face off at 8:30 PM and the MoJacks have their backs to the wall. On Saturday night at the Scugog Arena, the Eagles doubled the Mo- Jacks 4-2 to take a 20 "lead in the series, and then Sunday night in Bowmanville the home town squad simply out- played the MoJacks in all departments en route to an easy 7-2 victory and a 3-0 strangle-hold on the series. In Sunday's game, the MoJacks managed to keep the first period scoreless thanks largely - to the sharp goal-tending of Ken Harman who turned aside numerous Eagle chances. and skated hard to come up on top with a 3-0 vic- tory to keep the cham- pionship trophy at home. In the first period both teams skated hard but were unable to score. "In the second period Jason Cochrane opened the scoring with the assist going to Duane Empringham. At 4:35 Steve Laird scored with the assist going to Jason Cochrane. In the third period Brad Moase scored the final goal with Jody Logan and Jeff Parry picking up the assist. But in the second period, the Eagles jumped into a 3-0 lead by + the mid-point on goals by Mark Hickey, Brian Heard and Chris Dreossi. They had almost total control of the game and the MoJacks were hav- ing all kinds of trouble mounting any kind of a sustained attack. At 12:52, Wayne Snod- den provided what might have been a spark for Port Perry as he scored a short-handed marker to make it 3-1. Snodden simply out-worked a cou- ple of Eagles deep in the Bowmanville zone, circl- ed the net and slid the puck into an open cage. Just minutes later, Jeff Johnstone broke in from the right side and rattled a shot off the post. He then picked up a loose puck and banked one off the opposite post with Eagle goalie George Kennett beaten cleanly on both shots. But it was just that kind of an even- ing for Johnstone and the MoJacks. Also special thanks to Tommy Ricks Deli, Oshawa and Flamingo Tarts, Port Perry for their contributions. Strong team defeats Petites at Mariposa On Sat. Feb. 17 the Bruton's 1.D.A. Petites travelled to Mariposa to participate in their 5th annual tournament. In an early morning game we met a team from Bar- rie and came away with an 11-2 win. Scorers in this game were Denna Lovering 4 goals; Misty Andrews 3 goals, 1 assist; Lyndsay Dutkewich 2 goals, 4 assists; Danielle Cooper 1 goal, 1 assist; Shannon Fox 1 goal; Kelly Men- zies and Nicky Beare 3 assists each; Amy Parliament, Jennifer Morden and Christine Mueller 1 assist each. Tracy Pelow, in goal, made some good saves. Kim Poppleton and Tanya Towns played well on defence and were certainly instrumental in the winning of this game. This win put us on the championship side where we met up with a strong team from St. Catherines which defeated us by a score of 8-2. They went on to defeat Mariposa in the Championship game. Port held their own for a while but some missed shots, penalties and a strong goaltender were our downfall. Misty An- drews scored both goals with an assist going to Kelly Menzies. A shoot-out was held with 3 shooters and a goalie from each team competing. Misty An- drews, Nicky Beare and Amy Parliament were our shooters while Tracy Pelow stopped 28 out of 32 shots on her. Misty An- drews was successful in winning the shoot-out for the Petites. Congratula- tions girls! You all did well. Next game for these girls is on Sat. Feb. 23 at 5:30 when they take on their parents who are sure they could play bet- ter than their girls. We'll see!! Hope you'll be there to see this fun game.
