On Firday, February 22nd, the Pearce Auc- tioneers challenged the Stouffville team in their first matchup of the playoffs. The game commenced with both teams giving all out in an evenly mat- ched well played hockey game. Although both teams had many scoring opportunities, the goal tending was superb and the first period ended 0-0. Then midway thru the second period, Port opened the scoring as Brent Harper broke away from the Stouffville defence and carried it forward over the blue line. The puck was then picked up and netted by Kenton LeFort. Stouffville answered back early in the third period when tueir No.6 scored. Then, while play- ing shorthanded, Port's Davey Bourgeous broke away and rocketed one past the. Stouffville net- minder, making the - score 2-1. Way to go, Davey! The oppositioin put the pressure on and tied it up with a minute and 24 seconds remain- ing on the clock. The game ending in a 2 all tie, The defensive pair of Gavin Carnegie and Greg Thompson played an exceptionally good game as did forwards Scott Heasman and Davey Bourgeois. Well done, boys!! Early Saturday morn- ing, Port's Auctioneers were matched off against the host team at the Uxbridge Tourna- ment. Uxbridge opened the scoring midway through the first period but within minutes, Port tied it up with a well earned unassisted goal by Scott Heasman. Starting off the second period, the forward line of Kenton LeFort, Brent Harper and Brett Lawson rushed the Ux- bridge goalie with Brett Lawson scoring the marker from a scramble in front of the net. The period ended with Port leading 2-1. Uxbridge came back in the third period and tied it up. But seconds later, Scott Heasman scored his second of the game, assisted by fellow lineman Davey Bourgeois. The game PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. The shot was stopped, but Brent Harper scored the re- bound. Then early in the third period, defenceman Greg Thompson picked up the loose puck, car- ried it up the ice dodging Keswick's defence and scored unassisted, mak- ing the score 2-0. But the Keswick team came back and scored twice before the game ended - a 2 all tie. Forwards Mike Labanovich, Brett Lawson, Graham Holt and Richie Tripp all played a terrific game, having many scoring op- portunities but were foil- ed by the Keswick defence. Great game - boys! The tension mounted as the teams played some of their finest hockey of the season. Port's forward Davey Bourgeois displayed many fine goaltending skills several times during the ovetime period.
