On Saturday February 23rd the girls met the Oshawa 2 team at Iro- quois Park Arena in a clean well played game. The final score being 14 to 6 in our favour. Heidi Meisner opened the scor- ing with a hat trick. Her first goal was assisted by Kim Loudfoot, the se- cond by Joanne Desautels and Jessica Fluke and the third by Jessica. Kim put in number four from Vicki Reid and Denise Tomkins. Colleen Yorke then found the mark on assists by Heidi and Jessica. Val White was next from Joanne and Tina Soomre. Vicki quickly followed with a goal from Heidi and Jessica and then Heidi scored the last goal of the first period on a pass from Jessica. Partway into the second period Tina scored assisted by Terry Childs who then along with Heidi fed a @ wo © eight Pipi -oioled Hb 5 0 pass to Colleen Yorke so she could score her se- cond of the game. Heidi then scored unassisted and forty seconds later Tina scored from Colleen Scala. Kim completed the scoring with two goals. The first from Vicki and Heidi and the second from Heidi and Jessica. On Sunday we drove through the early morn- ing fog and darkness to meet Whitby at8:00a.m. at Iroquois (without cof- fee). Once more the girls put their hearts into it and - came away victorious. It was three minutes into 'the game when Sherry Harris opened the scoring on assists by Val White and Tina Soomre. Heidi soon made it 2-0 with help from Colleen Yorke and Vicki. Whitby came back quickly to tie the score but not for long. Sherry put us ahead again from Tina. Whitby scored again but a minute later Heidi put us ahead from Vicki and Joanne. Whitby tied it up <> h'at again but with 25 seconds left in the first period we went ahead to stay on a goal by Heidi assisted by Denise and Terry who was playing goal at the time. Early in the second period Sherry scored from Colleen Scala, Heidi scored another three from Sherry, Kim, Vicki and Joanne. Sherry then scored her fourth goal from Kim to give us a final score of 10-6. These two wins placed us first in our pool at the end of the round robin and pitted us against Sunderland in the semi- final round. Unfortunate- ly the girls couldn't hang on to the lead they took when they opened the scoring in the game and recorded their only loss of the tournament. The final score being 9-6 for Sunderland. Heidi scored all six goals on assists from Vicki, Sherry, Kim, Colleen Scala and . Jessica. Next game is on Wednesday, February 27th against Mariposa at the Oakwood Arena at 7:00. Good Luck Girls Five minutes into the final frame, Goreski's pulled to within one, when on a face-off in the Blackstock corner, Bill St. John fired it in with Tim Ashbridge drawing the assist. On the ensuing face-off at centre, Beacock"s marched down ice and with Laval Poulin drawing all the at- tention he fed Tom Wot- ten in the slot who put it in the empty net. Beacock"s made it 4-1 when Dave Dalton fed a pass to Cordell Keuning at the point who's long drive eluded the Goreski goaltender. With 4:44 to go Beer was pulled in favour of the extra at- tacker resulting in the final goal as Alex Shelemba aided Dave Dickson. Utica will host Blackstock in game one of the finals this coming Sunday at 5:00 p.m. The following week will see no game at the local arena as both these teams will be involved in the Regional Playdowns at Wasaga Beach with Beacock's playing at 8:00 p.m. Friday night and Utica following them at midnight.
