PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 5, 1985 -- 3 Wins Four Awards Star judged as top paper in its class The Port Perry Star, along with other Ontario community newspapers, was honoured last weekend in Toronto at the annual convention of the Ontario Community Newspaper Association. The Star received four first-place awards for its achievements during 1984. This is the largest number of awards Port Perry's community newspaper has ever received in one competitioin. In the Premier divi- sion, the Star was the recipient of first place for the Best Tabloid Front Page. This award is in the circulation class 4,501 to 8,000, and is the first time the Star has won in the Premier Class. The best front page is judged on the quality of writing, use of photographs, effective headlines, and quality of printing and pictures. In the O.C.NA. General Excellence com- petitiions, the Star picked-up a first place for this category. This is the first time since 1968 that the Star has been able to achieve this goal. To win the highest general excellence award, the Star was judged top newspaper over a field of excellent Ontario newspapers. The papers are judged on their quality of photography, advertis- ing, sports news, editorials, news and features, front page and composition and layout. On two previous occas- sions the Star managed : | to place second in this | competition. These were in 1969 and 1979.
