Port bows out after 3-1 loss Port: hosted Napanee on Friday, March 8 but they were defeated 3-1 in a very exciting game that had the crowd on their toes until the final minute when Napanee got lucky and scored the winner. Clair Cornish got Port's only goal assisted by Brian Appleby and Chris Legere. Three minutes after Port scored Napanee tied it up at one apiece. The game ATOM PLAYOFF SERIES Gord Lewis Motors - 6 Tripp Realty - 4 Although Tripp Realty was scoreboard, they were downed 6-4 by Gord Lewis Motors. Ryan Picard put his team in front just 37 seconds into the game. He was assisted by Darren Hope. Lewis came back, scor- ing the next three in the first period. Adam Johnston notched a pair while Jeff Kemp scored one. Chad Brown assisted on all three markers. Tripp Realty scored twice in the se- cond period. Jan Roberts from Ryan Picard and Picard unassisted. Adam Johnston answered for Lewis, from Chad - Brown. Johnston found the net twice more in the third period, assisted by Andy Wilson and Kevin Brown. Darren Hope scored the final goal of the game for Tripp, with the assists going to Ryan Picard and Scott Airey. Swamp Auto Body - 3 Scugog Lumber - 2 Swamp Auto Body came out strong taking a 3-0 lead, then sat back and let Scugog Lumber notch a pair. In the first period, Mike Olaisen net- ted one from Mike Hep- burn. Then Lee Whitter found the net assisted by Chad Verining. In the se- cond, Mike Williams scored, unassisted. With three minutes remaining in the period, Scott Wylie notched one for the lumbermen assisted by Jason Dunkley and Joey Broadworth. Ian McClelland scored unassisted at the mid- point of the third period to put his team within one. Good action follow- ed, but the final tally was 3-2 for Swamp Auto Body. Art Schryburt had a strong game in the Scugog nét. UAW. -5 Don Forder Insurance - 0 U.A.W. blanked Don Forder Insurance 5-0 in the final atom game of the day. The score was not indicative of the play as Forder out-hustled U.A.W. on numerous oc- casions, but lady luck was on the U.A.W. bench. Billy Sandiford first on the was a dead-lock for the whole second period and .the third until Napanee capitalized on a scram- ble in front of the net that 'gave them the game. They also scored in the empty net. The Port Perry Legionairs have had a rewarding season winning three tour- naments, a good portion of their games and have demonstrat Port Perry's ability quite well. recorded a hat-trick, while Robert McEachern and Steve Slade each not- ched singles. Assists were awarded to Phil Edgar (2), Elton McFa- dyen (3) and Robert McEachern (1). Con- gratulatins to netminder Greg Rankin on his shut- out, and to U.A.W. who are still undefeated in the playoffs. PEE WEE The championship series was decided Saturday morning with Larocque defeating Scala 6-4 winning their series 2 games straight and W. Frank upsetting Lions Club 4-1. The championship series will start March 23 with Larocque Electric going against W. Frank Real Estate in a best 2 out of 3. Although Lions and Scala have been knocked out of the playoffs, they still have 3 exhibition games left, so check the schedule board. Larocque - 6 Scala - 4 With the exception of the last 2 minutes this game was a see-saw bat- tle the entire game with * both teams exchanging goal for goal. With a lit- tle over 2 minutes left in the game Larocque held a 4-3 lead. Scala in a last ditch effort pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker, but unfor- tunately it backfired as Larocque popped in 2 empty net goals. Scala did manage 1 goal, however, it came to late with the score ending in a 6-4 victory for Larocque. Scoring for Larocque, Lee Phillips 3 goals, 1 assist; John Andrews 2 goals, 1 assist and Shawn Larocque with a single and 1 assist. Also picking up assists were Jeff Labanovich and Todd Saulnier. For Scala, Jason Ausman, Mike Butt, Jon Ausman and Joel Schryburt all with singles. Assists going to Butt and Carl Payne. W. Frank - 4 Lions Club - 1 This game was turning into a real nail biter as the Lions heldonto a 10 lead with only 7 minutes left in the game. Certain- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 12, 1965 -- 21 The Port Perry Pee Wees gave it a good effort Fri- in the final minute for a 3-1 win to take the series by the day evening against a well balanced Napanee squad with same margin. Clair Cornish counted the lone marker for a fine goaltender. In a tight game, Napanee scored twice the local Legionaires. Minor Hockey House League results ly, not through lack of trying that Lions could have scored more, but good goaltending by Tu Connell and that invisible 3rd defenseman (the goal post) thwarted their efforts. Frank however, had luck on their side as they capitalized on their scoring chances by pop- ping in 3 unanswered goals in the final 6 minutes. Scoring for Frank, Paul Kett with a hat trick with Alec Crammer not- ching a single. Assisting were Heath Hudson and Vince Criscione. Scoring the lone Lions goal was Billy Ruddell with Mark Shephard and Greg Kyle assisting. Congratulations and good luck to both Laroc- que and Frank in the finals. BANTAM Consumers Gas - 2 Cochrane Trotters - 2 This series took on a me wait - see what you want to do first, kind of look, and it wasn't long before Consumers Gas got the first goal from the stick of Darryl Bradt, after Craig Free broke up a rush from Cochranes. With the Gas Works in front 1-0 after one period of play. Both teams played it close throughout the se- cond period, not giving an inch either way, until early in the third period, Jim Vernon on passes from Derek Slack and Steve Diceman, tied it at 1-1. Then Slack put the Horsemen in front 2-1 on a pass from Halligan. Then late in the period Craig Free took a pass from Neil Mark, after Bradt broke up a pass at this blue line - final score 2-2. Cochrane Trotters - 6 Consumers Gas - 4 The Trotters who started this game off as they knew that they were in for a battle all the way. Steve Diceman got the first goal on a rebound - after Mike Haines and Marvin Hughes threw the puck around Enzi, the goalkeeper. Two minutes later Frank VanVeghel scored after taking a pass from Ver- non and Halligan. Then Mike Kersten broke up a pass play, fed it to Bradt who returned the pass to Kersten who scored. Period over 2-1 the Horsemen. ' In the second period Marvin Hughes scored after taking a goal mouth pass from Slack. Craig Free from the faceoff beat Hobb's high on the left. Scott White took a pass at the blue line from Vernon, broke in and scored. Frank VanVeghel got his se- cond goal of the game from Beddome. Joe Jackman got one back for the Gas Works, with help from Free, second period over 5-3 Horsemen. Jim Vernon then scored on a pass from . White, this coming before Craig Free got his second of the game on a corner pass from Turner. This series is not over by a long shot as Cochrane won 64.
