y | : | Petites reach semi-final = ¢ at Regional tournament ed During the weekend of March 7-10, the Bruton's [.LD.A. Petites par- ticipated in the annual "B" Regionals Tourna- ment held this year in Sunderland. Teams representing Whitby, Oshawa, Ajax, Picker- ing, Mariposa and Wood- ville ringette associa- tions were our opponents. In our first game against Whitby was one of the best games played by our girls all season. Our girls outplayed Whit- by for all of the game but had trouble finding the net on several chances in the first half. They found their shooting eye in the second half and skated to an 8-6 victory. Down by a score of 6-5, Kelly Men- zies scored with 42 seconds left on the clock to tie the game. Kelly then assisted on the win- ning goal by Misty An- drews and the insurance goal by Denna Lovering to defeat Whitby 8-6. The scorers in this game were Misty - 4 goals, 1 assist; Denna 2 goals, 2 assists; Kelly 1 goal, 2 assists; Danielle Cooper 1 goal; Kim Pop- pleton and Nicky Beare 1 assist each. In our second game against Oshawa, Misty Andrews was the big scorer as she scored 8 goals and assisted on 1 to lead Bruton's I.D.A. to a 9-5 victory. Kelly Men- zies 1 goal, 2 assists; Denna Lovering 2 Record on the line The Old Cees will put their perfect record on the line March 16 at the Scugog Arena when they meet the Port Perry Mo- Jacks for the third time. The Old Cees have won both games in previous years and a team spokesman said this year's squad has had several practises together and as usual will take the game very seriously. And if the beer strike continues much longer, the old guys could very well be a step or two ° quicker when game time rolls around. The Old Cees are a group of players who 852-5884 HOMELITE ST80 TRIMMERS ARIENS RS SNOWBL OWE Ei Was $695.95 | 60000 BUY A STIHL CHAN SAW AND RECE | CASE Value $43 FREE CARRYING wore the MoJack and Flamingo colours in years gone by, and for the past couple of years they have been getting together with the current MoJacks for a benefit match with all proceeds going to a fine cause: the Port Perry Minor Hockey Association. Also in the line up for the old guys are current MoJack coach Bob Mar- quis and former coach Gary Elliott. It should be a most entertaining game and fan support will help Minor Hockey in the development of young players. UXBRIDGE SMALL PHONE ENGINES LTD. We ended our round robin in the tournament playing against Ajax. In this game Bruton's [.D.A. soundly defeated them by a score of 11-2. Scorers were Misty 5 goals, 1 assist; Denna 3 goals; Kelly 2 goals; Lyndsay 1 goal, 2 assists; Nicky 4 assists; Danielle 2 assists; Jennifer 2 assists; Shannon Fox and Tracey Pelow 1 assist each. This victory put us in first place in our pool and allowed us to play in the semi finals on Sunday. For the semi-final game we played against our rivals from Mariposa in a well-played game but came out on the los- ing end of a 10-5 game. Port opened the scoring and held the lead for a few minutes but Mariposa soon took over and never looked back. The girls had scoring op- portunities but couldn't capitalize. The one bright spot of this game was that Mis- ty Andrews earned the game ring by scoring her 150th goal of the season. Way to go Misty!! Scorers in this game were Denna Lovering 2 - goals, 1 assist; Misty An- drews 3 goals; Tanya Towns and Kelly Men- zies 1 assist each and Nicky Beare 2 assists. Amy Parliament played her first time in net dur- ing this tournament and did a fine job stopping many shots. The defence of Nicky Beare, Kim Tanya Towns, Kim Finley, Tracey Pelow and Lynd- say Dutkewich did a super job. Keep up the good work girls. It is certainly nice to see how the new girls Tanya Towns, Danielle Cooper, Jennifer Morden, Shannon Fox and Kim Finley have progressed throughout the year to the calibre of play they showed during the tournament. Keep up the good work girls! The loss of this game knocked us out of the tournament. Oshawa went on to defeat Mariposa to take home the Regional 13 trophy. The Bruton's [.D.A. 'Petites, coaches and parents would like to congratulate the Chris Allen Alumihum Tweens on winning the Regionals by defeating Woodville in a very exciting game. Way to go girls!! This was the third and deciding game in the series as the two previous weeks saw each team win by iden- tical 3-0 scores. In the opener of the series, Sports Den took this game before Pumpers offence took over to score the 8 straight goals. In game two the line of Janet McGregor, Lori Lynde and Joyce Parkinson not- - - ched one apiece for the win. In the final, this same line was on fire as McGregor accounted for three of the five goals. Lynde and Parkinson got the two remainders giv- ing this line a total of nine points in the series. Some fine goaltending by Denise 'Squeak' Crawford through the final two games enhanc- ed the girls chances. In regular season play the Pumpers had finish- ed in second place behind the Sports Den who represented the league in the Regional Playdowns. The girls would like to thank sponsors Ralph and Wayne Taylor and their coaches Bruce and Gene Woodrow for their support and guidance. ne SAVE YOUR BODY J AY ™ -- ' 90 Vanedward Drive, XTEZ OW) VAN CAMP CONTRACTING Lo.
