TUESDAY MEN'S BOWLING Standings: Y Team Rural groups workshop Have you ever felt frustrated when an or- ganization you belong to decides to do things but nothing happens? Do you find that the same people in your organization are doing all the work? Often the answer to these ques- tions is "yes."" To help rural organiza- tions solve some of these problems, a leadership development day was held. On February 28th, representatives from various local rural or- ganizations in Durham West met at the Legion Hall in Uxbridge. The theme for the day was 'Team Work."' The topics covered were "How To Recruit Volun- teers and New Mem- bers' and "'Leadership Styles." Jie Clicks & ie Bust! Don't MISS our big Chick Days. "Growing to Serve You Better!" After some infor- mative discussion, it was concluded that an organ- ization needed to follow certain practices to suc- cessfully get volunteers and new members. The following practices were recommended: have in- teresting meetings, wel- come the members, find out their interests, keep the members informed and active in the group and promote the organ- ization's program. Further discussion revealed that to be the most effective as a leader, one ha: to adjust to the leadership style to match the motivation and skill level of the group. For example, if the group was highly motivated and able to do a task, a lay back, non- interfering leadership style would be ap- propriate for the situa- tion. The day was organized by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food with sponsorship from the Durham West Junior Farmers. Fifty-six people repre- senting 27 rural organ- izations attended this very successful event. Delegates from the Port Perry area were Betty Reader, Lilo Czilok, Karl Batty, Leonard Waltham, Alva Thompson, Edna Wilson, Helen Thomson, Robert Armstrong, Veronica Colengelo, Ken Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Woodward.
