Obituary PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 19, 1985 -- 9 Death saddens community GRAHAME STANLEY GEORGE FISH It is with a sense of deep sorrow and shocked disbelief that the Cart- wright Community greeted the sad news of the death of a popular resident in the person of Grahame Fish. He pass- ed away suddenly at the Community Memorial Hospital, Port Perry, on Friday, February 15, 1985 in his 74th year. Beloved husband of Neta (Wooldridge) and the late Edna Wilson. Dear ~ father of Dorothy (Mrs. Larry Smith) Hampton, Joyce (Mrs. Ron Jacobs) Blackstock, Faye (Mrs. Dan Corby) Blackstock and Bruce Fish, Oshawa. Stepfather of Marlene Bannister, Peter- borough, Audrey (Mrs. Jim Leishman) Reaboro, and Calvin Holland, Bowmanville. Loved grandfather of 16 grand- children. Brother of Heather (Fish) Munro, and Doug and Peter Fish of Sonya. A sister Bar- bara of Devon, England, predeceased him. Grahame was born April 1st, in 1911, in Devon England, and came to Canada just before the depression- in 1928. He worked as a farm hand for a time, then trained as a carpenter. Before long he was a builder- con- structing houses as well as farming. In 1973 Grahame and Neta were married and a year later when he. retired, they moved into their new home which he had built, on the east side of the farm, where he lived un- til his death. Church was a very im- portant part of his life, and Grahame was a staunch member of Nestleton United Church, serving as Elder, on the Board of Stewards, and was Representative to the Oshawa Presbytery. For a number of years, he served in Municipal Council being Building Inspector and attending Conventions in this capacity. Talented in creating- being very in- ventive and clever with his hands- he was a master at building beautiful Macrame plant hangers- assembling models of sailing ships and so forth. Nothing was too hard for him to do. He had a great deal of patience putting in- tricate, delicate pieces together. Grahame was a man who started from a humble beginning and made his mark in the world by hard work and dedication. High on the list of hobbies was collec- ting farm and industrial caps. Also- he was a lover of the outdoors and his bountiful vegetable garden and lovely array of flowers were a source of pleasure to him. Fond of animals he delighted in riding his Arabian horse about the property and spent a good deal of \ time with his pet dog. PORT PERRY and took great pride in manipulating the big combines during the harvesting. To know Grahame was to admire and respect him- behind that furrow- ed brow ticked a shrewd mind- he knew his way about and did his.best in a steady, quiet way and justice was most impor- tant to him. His pleasant smile, cheery ways, warm hospitality, and sense of duty won for him a host of friends. A lifetime- full of produc- tive hours! We pay tribute to his many talents and virtues and we shall all miss Grahame very much within this community. We are proud to have known him. This world is the poorer because of his passing- but richer because he was a part of it! Complete service was held at the Funeral Chapel of McDermott- Panabaker, Port Perry, on Monday, February 18, 1985 at 1:30 p.m. Spring Interment in Sunderland Cemetery. Rev. Dale Davis was the officiating clergyman and offered a warm, sincere message of comfort to the family, and spoke of the active and fulfilling life of the deceased. Student Minister Elaine Barber assisted. The large attendance of relatives and friends and the beautiful floral tributes and donations to the Nestleton Memorial Fund testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held. Pallbearers were four nephews and two grandsons- Darrel Snod- den, Roger Fish, James Munro, Dale Snodden, Michael Leishman and Keith Bannister. Following the service, relatives and friends gathered at the Nestleton Community Centre, where refreshments were served by the Units of Nestleton United Church Women.
