14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 26, 1985 Volunteers gear up for a great fundraiser Nestleton - Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Cancer Campaign Planned With chairperson Doris Taylor of Port Perry at the helm, the Township of Scugog volunteers are campaign getting ready for a great campe ign during the month of April. In rural areas the en- tire month is needed due to road conditions. The people of each communi- ly are urged to support this important cause. We have received a wonder- ful response in 1984- $22000- a lot of hard work for those involved, but very rewarding. The "'key" phrase for a volunteer for the Cancer Society is 'to care." The fight against this dread- ed disease is everybody's fight- so- join the crusade against Cancer- your best investment for health and happiness. This past Friday, our hardworking campaign chairperson Doris had "open house' for the captains to call in- have a visit- a spot of tea or coffee and pick up their Kits for the 1985 cam- paign. A most enjoyable hour was spent discuss- ing ways and means of having a terrific campaign. Daffodii Day 1s scheduled for Friday, April 12- due to severe weather condition in British Columbia it has slowed down the growth of these gorgeous spring flowers which the Cancer Society imports for its annual sales. (More in- formation as the cam- paign moves along will be a feature of this column). Happy 80th Birthday Celebration Many folks from Cart- wright, Port Perry and area were present for the elegant birthday celebra- tion for May Williams hosted by her family. The festivities were held in Simcoe Street United Church, Oshawa, on Saturday afternoon and evening March 23, 1985. Between 250 and 300 relatives and friends signed the guest book. Beautiful floral ar- rangements enhanced the large reception room- and the delicious food was supplied by the Ladies of the Church. We wish for May Williams many more of these delightful occasions.
