The mixed doubles event is being held today and doubles will follow on Thursday. Good luck players to all is concerned for the Ban- tams as Six Nations did not allow the forwards to penetrate for in close scoring chances. What proved to be the winning goal for Six Na- tions came at the 8:37 mark of the first with Port Perry on a penalty. Wayne Sault fired a shot from in close that trickled up and over Stacey Ballingall's shoulder and dropped just over the line.- Late in the first, the visitors took a 3-1 lead when slick skating Ken Miller put some fancy moves on Ballingall after racing in alone from cen- tre ice. Another power play goal at 7:16 of the second period by Brian Smith made it 4-1, and Six Na- tions finished off the scoring in the third on . goals by Jamieson and Ronald Johnson, the final one coming with just 47 seconds left in the game. GAME TWO After losing the open- ing game by a score of 6-1, Goreski Bantams re- bounded on Sunday with an 8-5 victory. The line of Menzies, ~ Geer and Oke shocked Six Nations' by scoring three goals in the first 1:52 of the game. Men- zies deposited the puck behind the surprised Six Nations goalie after Oke shot the puck into the corner. Geer snared the rebound and passed the puck to Menzies in front of the net. Eighteen "seconds after the first goal, Menzies scored again after Geer hustled into the Six Nations end and dug the puck out from behind the net and passed in front to Men- zies who made no mistake depositing it behind the goalie. Port scored their third goal 1 minutes and 22 seconds after the second one while enjoying a man ad- vantage. McBride in- tercepted a clearing pass at the point and fired a hard shot towards the goal which Oke redirected the puck into the net. Play settled down for a few minutes until the 10:55 mark when Menzies completed his hat trick assisted by Oke. Six Nations tighten- ed up defensively with both teams taking penalties with neither team capitalizing. Six Nations got on the score board when Anthony passed to Jonathan who broke in from the left side and fired a hard shot at Ballingall with the re- bound going directly to Miller who fired home the puck. Port Perry closed out the scoring in the first period when Barkey fired home a pass from Jamie Men- zies to make the score 5 to 1. The opening of the se- cond period saw some good end to end action and hard checking which paid off for Port when Barkey passed to Con- nors at the point who . passed to Stapleton who fired home Port's sixth goal. At this point Port let up in the checking and Six Nations began to pour it on forcing Ball- ingall to come up with several good saves. At the 2:31 mark the tribe decided to turn it on, Miller snared a lose puck and broke down the ice on a breakaway to beat Ballingall cleanly with a wrist shot on the glove side. The hard "yy Cy Ty, Li vv Bantam A's even up the series working Miller from Six Nations dug the puck and from behind the net and passed to Johnston who was parked in front of the net and deflected the shot home. Six Nations scored again with just 10 seconds left in the period when Miller fired home a hard slap shot to make the score at the end of the second period 6 to 4. Six Nations came out for the third period fired up and with less than two minutes into the period made the score 6-5 when Jonathan beat Ballingall with a shot deep in the corner assisted by Hill. This final goal by Six Na- tions seemed to bring Port Perry back to life as they tightened up defen- sively and began skating hard again. Brad Men- zies scored his fourth goal of the game when Oke dug the puck out from along the boards and passed to Geer who made a nice pass to Men- zies. Warren Geer closed out the scoring for Port when he snared a lose puck at his own blue line and beat both defencemen and went in to beat the goalie. This made the final score 8 to 5 for Port Perry. Although Six Nations resorted to many illegal tactics Port kept their cool and did not retaliate and were full value for the win. Now that the boys have proved to themselves and a few others that they can beat Six Na- tions, this should prove to be a very tough and ex- citing series much like the series against Ernestown.
