DRUGS 200 QUEEN STREET - PORT PERRY 985-2511 The fingerprinting will be held at Port Perry IGA Store on Queen Street, and is a part of a province wide campaign supported by the provin- cial solicitor-general's department and spon- sored by 143 IGA stores and 45 Food City supermarkets. Parents who bring their children to the store for fingerprinting will receive a "Child Alert" booklet which has space for all pertinent data about the child; age, height, weight, colour of hair and eyes, name, phone number and school. The booklet will also contain the child's five fingerprints off the right hand. Should a child ever become lost or missing, the booklet may greatly assist police in locating the youngster. Jim Grieve, manager of Port Perry IGA Store is very enthusiastic about this program. "We believe it is just a great idea and we are giving it our full sup- port," he said last week. Mr. Grieve said store staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist with Proxy voting for 'students Students attending an educational institute away from home may vote by proxy in On- tario's 33rd general elec- tion on May 2nd. All students voting in person or by proxy must ensure that their names are on the list of electors for the polling division where they normally reside. Students may obtain the required proxy forms from any Returning Of- ficer throughout the Pro- vince. (However, the form, once completed, must be certified by the Returning Officer in their own district. . Upon presentation of a proxy form, the Return- ing Officer will issue a certificate to vote to the proxy who will, in turn, exchange it for a ballot on election day. Proxy voting allows an elector to authorize another qualified elector in the same polling divi- sion to cast his or her ballot on election day. A qualified elector may act as proxy for only two electors. Persons eligible to vote in this general election must be 18 years of age on election day, a Cana- dian citizen or British subject at the time of voting, and must have been a resident of On- tario for at least the 12 month period prior to election day. the fingerprinting and the whole process should take no more than a cou- ple of minutes. Oshawa Foods, which operates the Food City chain and supplies IGA stores in Ontario, is prepared to process more than 250,000 children across Ontario, and Mr. Grieve said the store in Port Perry will have enough booklets to satisfy the demand, whatever it may be. As well as containing the fingerprints, descrip- tion and a photo of the child, the booklet has a lot of very useful infor- mation for parents and children about crime and street-proofing to help prevent unfortunate situations from taking finding lost or kidnapped child place, The fingerprinting pro- gram will be held ote IGA Store in Port Perry on April 22, 23, 24, 29 30 and May 1 from 2:0 P.M. until store closing at 9:00 P.M. Take advantage of this program. If it helps police safely locate one missing child, it will be more than worth it. Port Perry IGA store manager Jim Grieve is very excited about a Child Alert program e Chris, will be conducting later this month.
