PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 16, 1985 -- 29 Annual show by the Port Perry Skating Club Circus on ice just delights crowds On Friday and Satur- day evenings, approx- imately 130 members of Port Perry Figure Skating Club treated two 'large and happy au- diences to an evening at the circus. Scugog Arena was transformed into a big top, and after gre _tings from rir gmaster Robin Pren- ti.e, groups of trapeze artists, lions, tigers, strongmen, monkeys, seals and dancing bears performed. These young members of the club were followed by a dan- cing horse which cavorted over the ice surface, even adding some spins. The first act ended with firemen clowns, Keystone cops, and finally a most col- ourful clown parade. In- dividual skaters featured in the first half were Sheryl Gibson, Sarah . Labanovich, Melissa Rodway, Chris McGill, (®) Hard work pays off for 130 skaters Sam Shewan, Lisa Jansen, Alisa Campbell, Meredith Allin and Vanessa Sorley. The second half of the programme had the crowd cheering on the jugglers, tightrope per- formers, circus vendors, an elephant line, fire eaters, gypsies, knife throwers, showgirls, and even a two-man snake. Featured soloists were Valerie Sanderson, Man- dy Martin, Peter Brock, Gretchen Cornish, Tam- my Zaparanuik, Kim Roane, Melissa Rudy and Kim Dowson, In each half of the pro- gramme, skaters and au- dience alike delighted in the entertainment pro- vided by guest skater Katherine Williams. This lovely young lady is a very promising per- former, and we look for- ward to following her career in the future. Port Perry Figure Skating Club's 27th an- nual carnival could not have been presented. without a great deal of hard work by the many: skaters involved, and especially by the coaches and the parents. Special thanks go to Rick and Barb Stephens for the many hours spent on the music and the on-ice coordination, to carvnial director Janice Patton, to Linda Shewan for al the glittering costumes, to Audrey Roane for her beautiful painting of the sets, to Anne Thompson for coordinating dressing rooms and backstage personnel, to Tom Patton for the props, to Wayne Sanderson, Brian Bray and their helpers, and to our local lighting crew. All contributed to a most successful carnival.
