Nestleton - Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Nestleton W.1. Branch Holds Annual Meeting The Nestleton W.1. Branch - a small but dedicated group - met in the Community Centre for the annual meeting. President Norma Frew in charge. Roll call - "Payment of dues." Dur- ing business a donation was given to the 4-H Club at Blackstock. A resume of the Rug Braiding Sum- mary Day held in Orono was given by Winnifred Davison. 9 attended from Nestleton. A planning meeting for the District Annual which will be held in Trinity United Church, Bowmanville, Monday, May 13th, was attended by Gwen Malcolm and Rika Wygerde. Marion Wiseman of Bowman: ville hosted the meeting. A letter of interest was read by Rika Wygerde from the convenor of F.W.I1.C. Education and Cultural Affairs. Sec'y - Treas. Marg France read the minutes of the previous annual (1984) and gave the "financial statement. En- couraging reports were presented by convenors and public relations of- ficer - showing an ex- cellent year. Winnifred Davison presided for the 1985-86. All officers were duly installed. President Norma Frew read a poem, '"The Road that Lies Ahead" and the meeting was ad- journed by singing O Canada and the W.I Grace. A tempting lunch was served by Gwen and Rika. Pres. Norma ex- pressed the appreciation. A plant and craft sale will be a feature of the May 1st meeting to be held in the Community Centre. Visitors and anyone who would care to join this fine Branch will be warmly welcomed. Sympathy Deepest sympathy goes out to the Ploughman family in the loss of a beloved hus- band, father, grand- father, and brother - Stanley Ploughman, who passed away on Friday, April 5, 1985, at the Com- munity Hospital in Port Perry. He leaves to mourn wife Flossie (Samells) Ploughman, daughter Louella Ken- nedy of Seagrave, Ellen McCabe of Scarborough, ~ and predeceased by Nor- ma Wood, Bowmanville. Loved grandfather of seven grandchildren and eight great grand- children. Brother of Myr- Palmer) Oshawa and predeceased by Minnie Hood and Aylmer Ploughman. Stan proved to be a good friend to many people - and work- ed with untiring zeal for his church, lodge and ¢ommunity and the Boy Scout Movement was a very important part of his life. Stan will be sad- ly missed by a host of relatives and friends. We shall also miss a good friend May Allen of Port Perry, who passed away just recently in Oshawa General Hospital. A fine person, lively and full of fun, a strong supporter of her community - sources of great interest were her Anglican Church-W.1. a member of Honeydale Branch, and the Com- munity Memorial Hospital where she was a patient many times over - the years. Sympathy to her relatives and friends. Ceaseare Euchre Results On Wednesday even- ing, April 3, the winners were: First prize - Walter Brown 83. A tie for second place with Freida Wingrove and Doug Thomas each hav- ing 82. Third was also a tie - Val Priebe and Kaye Brown each held 57. A good attendance. On Wednesday, April 10, first place was a tie with Linda Hughes and Lawrence - 72. Third - Karen Radford - 50. The ladies auxiliary will be holding meetings every third Monday at the Cen- tre and invite any in- terested ladies to join with them. Linda Ti. tle had 10 lone hands for the month of March. Re- freshments are served at each meeting. A night of fun and entertainment. Nestleton General Meeting of U.C.W. Thefirst joint meeting of the Nestleton U.C.W. Units was held in the Church Sunday School room on Wednesday evening, April 3. Arlene Malcolm opened the meeting welcoming the 17 members present. Janice MacKenzie led the worship with an Easter theme reading from the quotes of a scientist Dr. Wehrner Von Baun. Two hymns were sung and an ap- propriate rendition of "Were You There' by Janice with Gwen Malcolm at the piano. Scripture from Luke was read by Janice and Bet- ty Headon. 'Jean Williams had a passage from John followed by prayer. Arlene introduced the guest speaker Sharon Barkey, Durham Dairy Princess who presented an entertaining and in- formative talk, trying out a game of "food facts' on those present. Joanne Malcolm presented a gift to Sharon after her message. The business portion was chaired by Gwen Malcolm. The minutes of the previous General meeting was read and approved and Neta Fish gave the Treasurer's report. Plans for the Church supper on May 3rd at the Communnity Centre was discussed, also - discussion about details regarding the Nestleton Women's Institute is dedicated Dessert Luncheon this past June. The meeting closed and all enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by the evening Unit, con- sisting of vegetable trays and dip, Cheese and crackers and fresh fruit. Spring Smorgasbord The Nestleton U.C.W.'s will have a Spring Smorgasbord in the Community Centre on Friday, May 3. Time - 5p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Ad- vance tickets only. Visitations Grant and Merna Cawker of Oshawa were supper guests with his parents Sam and Mabe] at the farm this past week. Cheryl Cawker of Waterloo University was an overnight guest with her grandparents. She was on her way home for the s summer to Sudbury. The introspective watercolour collection of artist Raj Mosur will be on display at Scugog Memorial Library for.the next few weeks. The highlight of the show is a series representing the metamorphosis of physical laws and transparency of life and death in a continuous cycle.
