Last weekend Steve and Lorinda Bryans and Harold and Melanie Wright celebrated their first an- niversary in Toronto. On Saturday, Fred and Mabel Dayes were guests of honour at a par- ty in honour of their fif- tieth anniversary at Nestleton Hall. Many from this area attended to wish the Dayes many more years of happiness. The Blackstock Rec. Centre was also full of well-wishers for Roy and Ruth Graham's 25th an- niversary on Saturday evening. Congratulations to all of you. Saturday was not only reserved for wedding an- niversary parties but also for weddings. A number of Blackstock residents attended the beautiful wedding of Dave Buttery and Marlene Parsons in Col- borne. Among those in the wedding party were Eleanor Gibson, Jennifer and Dana Lee and Catherine Ellis. Neil "Malcolm proposed the toast to the bride. Dave and Marlene, after their trip to Bermuda, will make their home in Bowmanville. Derek Williams and Mary DeFranco were married on Saturday at Elverstron Tretheway United Church in Toron- to with the reception be- ing held at La Villa Ballroom. The couple will be going on a Carib- bean Cruise for their honeymoon and will reside in Toronto. This week is the begin- ning of Education Week 'at the Public School. On Thursday the Grade 8 classes of C.C.P.S. journeyed to Old Fort York with Miss Love and Mr. Thompson. While there the students enjoyed many activities before they returned on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. George Bray of Fairview Lodge celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary quietly last week. Their daughter, Mrs. Shirley Holliday, granddaughter Mrs. Diane Gatchell and other family: members visited. Last Tuesday an Ecumenical Church Ser- vice was held at the Im- maculate Conception Church in Port Perry with most churches in. the Scugog area par- ticipating in some way. A good crowd attended this interesting service. Rev. G. Jackson of Port Perry United compared the service to a family reu- nion in his excellent sermon. The April meeting of the Morning Unit of U.C.W. met at the home of Ruby VanCamp with 14 members present. After a very tasty lunch, unit leader Lois Luke welcome everyone and led in prayer. Marion Carnaghan led the wor- ship reading from 'Twelve Baskets Full.' Lois conducted the business and help was Wilde FL OT needed for the Curling Banquet on April 13th. Eleanor Werry ~ presented a very in- teresting program on Bereavement, whether it be the loss of a dear one, a job, a home or etc., how we cope and how our friends react. She sug- gested that what is need- ed most is friends' sup- port with a few words. The Institute spon- sored course "Sewing For Your Child' met on Monday, April 15. Anyone wishing to catch up may join on Mondays at 7 p.m. in the Blackstock Nursery Room. Remember the techniques used for little people are just made larger for adults. Hope to see more out as Barbara Weese, the instructor, is sent out by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The afternoon unit of the Blackstock U.C.W. met on Tuesday after- noon at the home of Mrs. Grace Hall, Williams Point, with 15 members present. After a dessert lunch, Jean Adams ex- tended a welcome to all - present. Aileen led the worship with the theme "Serve The Lord With Gladness." After the reading of Psalm 100 and hymn, the offering was received and dedicated. Minutes were read and the roll call well answered. Rev. Dr. Grant Schwartz, Chaplain of Durham Centre in Whitby, was the guest speaker talking on his work at the Cen- tre, answering many questions and dis- tributing information about Mental Health. Grace Hall thanked Dr. Schwartz. The meeting was then adjourned. UCW supper Utica-and Area News by Vera Brown Church and Sunday School at 11:15 a.m. this week at Utica. The U.C.W. beef supper on Thursday from 6-7 p.m. in Utica Hall. Ladies don't forget to get those pies made. There are a few tickets left. The Ses- sion and Stewards will meet following the supper: There will be a euchre on Friday at 8 p.m. in Utica Hall and a dance on Saturday night. Mrs. Jack Skelding will be hosting an after- noon tea on May 9th from 2 to 4 p.m. in honour of Rachel Eekhout who will be marrying George Harper on June 1st. All ladies of the community are welcome to attend. Any who wish to give a donation towards a gift please leave it with myself or Nancy Skelding as soon as possible. Mr. and Mrs. John Kir- ton of Mount Albert were Sunday supper guests with Mrs. Thompson. Miss Karen Aalto of Oakville and Mr. Dale Beare of Burlington were Sunday visitors with Mrs. Crosier. . Recent visitors with Mildred Mrs. Hilda Bailey were - Mr. and Mrs. Carson Watson, Mr. Corless Ashenhurst of Uxbridge and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Kidd of Goodwood. The Greenbank and District Block Parent Assoc. will be sponsoring a discussion on street proofing children at the Greenbank Hall on Thursday, May 9th at 7:30 p.m. There will be 2 guest speakers, a police officer and a block parent volunteer from Oshawa, as well as a role-playing session and a film (Strong Kids - Safe Kids). Parents are en- couraged to bring their children to this event. Admission will be free and coffee and donuts will be served.
