On Sunday, at the Island United, it was our pleasure to be treated in song by the "Fourtunet- tes." The children were given a visual demonstration of what happens to a complete paper chain with various sized links, when one link breaks away. After the Church Ser- vice, the congregation was invited to remain to get a report and deal with the conclusions of the Building Committee. As Tim Pelyk presented the findings, it proved, these people had done their homework well and made much investiga- tion re the need for addi- tional land and cost in- volved thereby. Then specific building needs, involvments and proper " planning with general cost. Everyone seemed eager to co-operate up to this point. So the com- mittee may now work on these 2 points. April 25 at 8 p.m. Directors DAVID SIMS DIANE | ACKIE LIKE IT IS "by Bev Silverman : Be sure to' Spring has sprung, at least that's how the saying goes. It feels more like it's creeping in at a snail's pace, and I wonder if it'll ever get here for sure. You think it has arrived, when bingo, we're hit with: another two inches of snow. Sure makes a body depressed. Usually by now we're happily out rak- ing up the winter debris, but so far it's more like scraping. I scraped my yard last week, and it looked so neat and tidy when I finished, I felt so full of vim and vigor. The very next day 1 look out the window and see A white covering of snow over everything. What A bummer. Back to the winter lazies for me. Talking about winter debris, isn't it amazing what you find when the snow is gone? You meticulously clean, rake, and gather in the fall, and what do you get for your efforts in the Spring, GARBAGE. You have your ever popular candy wrappers, newspapers, of which none are The STAR, empty, never full cigarette packages, leaves, you know darn well you raked up in the fall, and last but not least, MESSY DOG PLOPPINGS. Boy, this really makes my day when I have to shovel this up, especially when I don't even own a dog. My lawn, I know, needs to be fertilized in the Spring, but please _ not with my neighbours' dog mess. I guess their own yards are all pooped out. Spring is the time you see your ~~ neighbours outside working after four © months of hibernation. You might even see the odd pregnant lady. Winter seems to be the favourite time of year for this condition to occur. It must be that men get bored very easily. . ) The tulips and daffodils are up. I know because I have A whole garden full that aren't supposed to be there. Last summer, I dug, roto-tilled, and pitched- forked two pails, full of bulbs and what do I get, more than I've ever had. I guess they were bored all winter too. More rust spots have appeared in the old jalopy. She got all spruced up last, year, with a new paint job, body work, @ THE DURHAM BOARD OF EDUCATION TENDER No. 85-33 © INTERIOR & EXTERIOR PAINTING AT VARIOUS SCHOOLS DURHAM REGION SEALED TENDERS, In envelopes sup: ge her name from Rusty Rita to Ravishing Rita. Well, we're back to Rusty again. This is the time of year to spray your ~ crab-grass, folks. Rick, my weed man has been diligently spraying mine for two years running, and according to him, this is the year for the final kill. I'm so ex- cited that I think I'll throw A Killed The Crab-Grass Party. Wanna come? Mind you, I'll have to buy A 50 1b. bag of grass seed to fill in the spots. Don't forget your poor old Birch trees the end of April, they need to be painted with Cigon-2E to kill Leaf-Miner. Last April, I did just that, but I went A few steps further. I not only painted the whole trunk, which you're not suppose to do, I peeled raggedy looking pieces of bark off too, to make it A little neater. Those of you, who have gardening expertise, are probably by now, screaming in anguish -- YOU FOOL. Well, don't worry, I must have A tree made of white steel, because it not only survived, but has flourished ever since, with no bugs of any kind or description in the whole darn yard. Come to think of it, the whole neighbourhood has been bug free. We have many Spring rituals, and one is the dreaded Diet. I have looking over my summer wardrobe lately, and I think I have outgrown everything. Don't tell Hubbie, O.K., that's our little secret. I started my diet at 8 a.m. April the 10th, and finished it at 8 p.m . April the 10th. You can blame Cathy Robb. She made me come to A Make-Up Party and of course at these important functions, there is always food in abundance. Give Me A Break, Cath. Another one of these lousy rituals, is cleaning the stupid windows. I hate it. You clean, wipe and scour, expecting to have beautiful windows when you're finished, and what do you get in return, STREAKS. Why can't they invent disposable ones? Sounds good to me. By the way, why hasn't there been any ads in the paper for Window Cleaners? Come on guys get with it, I know you're out there. I'll be phed and plainly marked as to con tents. will be receiv ed by the undersign- ed until 300 pm Local Time.
