The Durham Board of Education has decided to hold a Public Meeting at R.H. Cornish P.S. on Monday, June 3 at 7:00 p.m. to establish a School Committee to review ac- comodation at Cart- wright High School. This is the public's only chance to be heard so Cartwright residents this is your chance to be counted. We all know how much numbers count so do take this meeting up with your friends and neighbours and make a point of at- tending. The committies which will be formed next Monday night will have to decide whether the Cartwright High School should be closed and be prepared to recommend its decision to the Board later this year. For further infor- mation call the school but above all do plan to be at Port Perry next Monday evening, June 3. On Sunday evening a capacity crowd at the Blackstock United Church thoroughly en- joyed the Prodigal Players which is a travelling theatre troupe presenting Children's theatre, Parable Parallels and Social Drama. The original plan was to present the program of the troupe's mobile stage outdoors but the inclement weather forced the pro- duction indoors to the sanctuary. For many the evening began with a delicious pot luck dinner. The troupe of six kept the attention of the audience for the entire performance. On Thursday noon Mrs. Eileen McLaughlin held a luncheon in honour of her mother, Mrs. Elva Toms' birth- day. Attending were Mrs. Wilma VanCamp, Mrs. Ruby Trewin, Mrs. Jean Slemon, Mrs. Joan Graham and Mrs. Joyce Kelly as well as the guest of honour. Happy Birth- day Mrs. Toms. On June 9 evening a special event will be tak- ing place in the Blackstock United Church when the Canada Cord and All Round Cords will be presented to several girls who have achieved these high goals in the Guiding Pro- gramme. Other ceremonies involving the Brownies and Guides will also take place. It is a long time since such a ceremony has taken place in Blackstock so mark June 9 on your calendar. Mrs. Margaret Van- Camp attended the wed- ding of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Stewart in Whit- by on Friday. The Blackstock Lions Club wish to thank the community for suppor- ting both their Flea Market and the Dinner Theatre on the weekend. Special thanks to the Flea Market con- tributors. Over one hun- dred attended the Dinner Theatre which began with a delicious gourmet dinner catered to by Tripp Toms Caterers. The play, Barefoot in the Park, was a great 3 act comedy directed by John Foote. A local actress, Kim Bullock, very capably played the lead part. The same play will be presented on Friday evening at 8 p.m. at the Rec Centre with tickets at the door. See the com- ing events advertisement. LOB INO Fate of CHS lies in hands of public meeting June 3 as well as his other sister and brother. Frank was interviewed on television and by three newspapers on the event of his reu- nion with his sister. They "also visited Jennie's on- ly aunt living in England. They hadn't seen this £8 year old lady since she visited Canada about 40 years ago. Talk about family reunions. Ken, Mary and Stephanie Whitehead also recently returned home from a two week trip to England and Wales where they visited and stayed with relatives including Ken's mother. The Whitehead's are now hard at work on their chip truck SuperSpud which is located at Bren- da's Esso on 7A. They look forward to seeing and serving everyone from Wed. through Sun. Both the Whitehead's and Bailey's report that the weather could have been better but in spite of that a good time was had by all. Both were quite close to the tragic fire at the stadium which claim- ed so many lives. Glad to report that Mrs. Alma Taylor is showing fine improve- ment in J.0. Ruddy Hospital, Whitby and that bob Holliday is home from his stay in Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto. Mrs. Lul Hartin suffered a stroke recent- ly and is in Port Perry Hospital where Mr. Cecil Hamilton and Mrs. Louise Wright also are patients. Better health is wished for all these folks. Congratulations are extended to Kathy Evans and Murray Archibald who were married in Blackstock United Church in a very pretty wedding on Saturday. They will be living in their home - the house formerly owned by Mrs. Gladys Thompson in West Blackstock. Jim Harris was kicked - by a horse at work and spent a week in Peel Memorial Hospital, Brampton. He will be spending some time with his mother Mrs. Susie Harris and other relatives while he is recuperating. A speedy recovery is wished to Jim. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Ar- cher, Cobourg, Rowena and Lois Sherry of Port Hope were Sunday guests of Bessie and Ken Crawford. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Shields, Collingwood were weekend guests of Janice and Gary Beechey. Mr. and Mrs. John Stewart, Orillia, were Sunday guests of Grant and Lorna Edgerton and girls. I extend my sympathy to publisher Peter Hvidsten, his wife and family and the staff of the Port Perry Star on the passing of Per Hvidsten early Monday morning. He will be long remembered for his con- tributions to this paper and community.
