oy 22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 4, 1985 At Canoe The Nonquon '85 Despite brutal wind conditions most of the time on Lake Scugog, ___two new records were set the 17th annual Canoe the Nonquon held aturday. Rob Baird and Terri Gibson set a new mark in the couples resident class with a time of three hours, seventeen minutes and thirty-seven seconds. That knocked almost seven minutes off the previous standard set in 1984 by Terri Gibson and Kevin Haugen. And in the boys 14 and under category (from Concession 8 to the Yacht Club) Paul Wylie and Mike Freeman and Bill Hurst won the Chris Carr shaved a little Mens residents class, and they worked hard more than a minute off for it. (See story) the previous best time Jeff Cockerton (left) placed first in the boys 17 and under, with team-mate Tim Cannon (not in Photo) Ron Brown and Dave Burgess had to settle for second. One of the more hotly contested competitions was in the Mens Resident class where Mike - Freeman and Bill Hurst were determined to wrestle the title from perennial winners Rudi Jammer and son Clint. Freeman and Hurst worked hard to prepare for the event and it paid off as they had the best time of 3:04:44, almost eight minutes ahead of Jammer and Jammer. Steve DeHaas and Rob Page finished second in this event, just 14 seconds ahead of the Jammers. pe on Rick Routledge and Lee Barker in the Mens Open class.
