The hit- ting in this game was led by Doug Scott and Dave Dickson with 2 hits each; with singles going to Tim Thompson, Larry Pickey, Todd Wilbur and The Greenbank Gamblers Fastball Club is off to the best start in the history of the team and they lead the 'North Durham" League with a 6 win - 0 loss record. The Greenbank Bat- ters have been very strong at the plate while the pitching (which has long been a Gambler strong point) has so far in the season been excellent. Last year's Gambler pitching staff have all returned and Ken Goreski, Russ Korbak and Roland Osske have been impressive in their outings to date. Don Phinney, Hugh Johnston and Gary Baker have shared the catching duties and all have played well. Shift work continues to be a problem for the Gamblers with a number of their players working a 'two week about" swing shift which takes the players longer to get into "playing shape." However, weekend games and practises help to keep everyone sharp. Excellent defensive play has always been a trade mark of the Gamblers and this year is no exception as they have only committed 6 errors in the first 9 games of the young season Fastball Jack Bright. The coach was pressed into duty as Port was lacking a number of players due to shift work. Again, Lawrie Williams and John Annis split the pitching duties quite capably, allowing just 5 hits and 2 runs. On Saturday, Port travelled to Kew Beach in Toronto and won their 1st game of the tourna- ment 5-0 on a 1 hitter by John Annis. The hitting was supplied by red-hot Dave Dickson with 3 safeties and 3 runs; with single hits going to Colin Wackett, Rick Evans, Jay Williams, Todd Wilbur and Grand Jackson. After the 1st game, the tournament committee issued a statement declaring us too strong for the tourna- ment and returned our entry fee. Next action for the Legion team is Wednes- day night against the Oshawa Blues, the reign- ing OSSA Sr. 'A' champs at home and then into Oshawa the next night to face the Whitby Legion Team. Ladies suffer first defeat The Dennis Anderson Chev Olds Ladies Lob Ball team suffered their first defeat of the season last Monday night losing to the Seagrave Turkey Power by a score of 15 to 14 DACO maintained the lead right up until the 7th inning when the Seagrave bats came alive scoring 5 runs to go ahead. DACO's Melody Moase was very busy and effec- tive playing 3rd base. Left field could not have been played any better by anyone in the league then it was by Seagrave's Kathy Smith.
