Sharon Jones (top) was chosen to be Valedictorian and gave an inspiring speech summing up the school year. Jon-David Rodway and Serena Wood were named Outstanding Boy and Girl, marking them as top achievers in academics, sports, participation and popularity. Great going! : R.H. On June 4, she attended the Presentation at Rideau Hall, Ottawa when Dawn Bayley received her Gold Award. She also en- joyed the reception following the presenta- tion ceremony held in the Hall's Garden on invita- tion of Governor-General Madame Sauve. Then on June 6 Shirley and Roy attended the Award Forum held at Ontario Place. The Chief of the programme of twenty- six countries had met with the Duke to review the progress of this outstanding plan. Marc Garneau, the Canadian astronaunt was there and showed some films of his historic flight. A preview of a film of Canada which will be shown at the World Expo at Vancouver was another feature of this exciting evening. Prince Philip spoke to the group of leaders and director. All in all a most memorable evening. Glad to report that Margaret Duivesteyn is home from surgery. She is very appreciative of all the many kindnesses shown to her and her family over the long time of her hospitalization. Congratulations to Paul Green who graduated on Saturday at Convocation Hall from the Chef Training Pro- gram of George Brown College. His parents, Jack and Helen Green, John, Bryan and Bryce, his uncle and aunt, Don and Marjorie Green, Robert, Nancy and Richard attended the Convocation Exercises and the reception after- ward at Hart House. Paul is working at the Thunderbird Golf Course. Congratulations, Paul. Mrs. Kenneth Samells attended the graduation of her grandson, Kenneth Samells Jr. on Saturday morning at Convocation Hall, Toronto when he became a Welding Specialist from George Brown College. i Mrs. Elsie Hooey en- joyed being a guest at Clarence and Doris Mac- Donald's 40th wedding anniversary celebration at Lindsay on Saturday, June 22. She had also been a guest at the wedding. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Andy Visser on the birth of a baby girl. They are busy building a new house on Greenboro Drive. A large number of Trans Canada Radio Club members camped in the Fair Grounds over the weekend. They car- ried on a large number of activities for their members throughout their stay here. They reported it was the big- gest success they have ever had with members attending from all across United States and Canada. The Strawberry Sup- per at the Blackstock United Church on Satur- day night was a suc- cessful event. Mary Lou and David Kellogg. Mary Lou and David are busy building a new house. On Saturday June 22nd, Boyd Vanderheul and Allen Hudson were enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces. The ceremony and reception took place at Canadian Forces Recruiting Cen- tre, Toronto. The boys have been accepted at Royal Military College, Kingston, the prere- quisite being a successful completion of a seven- week Basic Officer Training School at Chilliwack, B.C. Boyd and Allen leave for B.C. on July 2nd from Cana- dian Forces Base, Tren- ton and will commence studies in Kingston in early September. Con- gratulations boys! The June O.N.O. meeting was held at the home of Sharon Wilson. After having fun with a few Trivial Pursuit ques- tions the May minutes were read and approved. A gold coloured urn has been purchased for the Rec Centre kitchen and is to be used for TEA only. Button pins have been purchased for all the current O.N.O. members in honour of the 35th anniversary. The O.N.O. sponsored swim program at Uxpool is ready to go with the bus leaving from Cart- wright Public School Ju- ly 2nd at 8:00 a.m. Pro- blems with getting the new village signs in place are being overcome so it is hoped that they soon will be up. David Kyte has most generously of- fered to donate two posts, pressure treat them and deliver them. The O.N.O. 35th an- niversary party is book- ed for Oct. 19th at the Rec. Centre with past members being invited to dinner and entertain- ment- as well as the dance. The dance will be open to all our friends. For dinner entertain- ment and dance the cost 1S $25.00 per couple while the dance is only $5.00 per couple. As part of next month's roll call, please bring your fun- niest memory of O.N.O. The next meeting will be at Barb Byer's home. Roll Call was a paper bag auction and lots of fun after which Sharon served a dessert lunch. Many from Cartwright attended the annual Decoration Service at Pine Grove Cemetery Prince Albert. Sunda, afternoon. Ross and Alma Duff attended a family gathering after the service held at the home of Jim and Hazel Coates. There were 9 tables at the weekly card party with the following win- ners 1. A group of school friends held a farewell dance for Vicki, Arthur and Joel Schryburt after the closing of school on Friday afternoon at the Town Hall. Linda Kyte's piano and organ students presented a lovely recital at the United Church on June 14. The beginners delighted the fine au- dience of parents, grand- parents and friends. They were Nicole Gib- son, Heather Goulding and Stacey Swain. The Grade one students, Courtney Statton, Taylor Statten, Michael Haines, Melissa Haines and Bryce Green each played, after which Jen- nifer Byers, Lisa Gilbank and Vanessa Sorley the Grade 2 students per- formed. Tara Cearns was the only Grade 3 student. Bradley Malcolm played on the organ after which guest artist Angela Kiezebrink played The Pathetique Sonata. Grade 4 students who played were Tracy Malcolm, Sheryl Gibson, Susan Kyte, and Kendall Chorostecki. Frances Grove, a voice student sang several numbers. Eileen McLaughlin and Esther Masche, were the delicious .Grade 5 students after which the Grade 6 students, Vicki Schryburt, Laura Gilbank, Kevin Gibson, Jill VanCamp and Jen- nifer Fletcher perform- ed. Natalie Green and Jason Kyte the two grade eight students delighted the audience with their numbers after which Angela Kiezebrink played The Sunken Cathedral.
