It certainly has been uncomfortable for outdoor sports and weddings. Here's hoping this coming weekend will be a happy one at the Island Museum Sunday and Monday for Pioneer Days. Watch for detailed description of events. Tho School and Sund; ay School Sessions are over for the summer, we still keep the children in mind. At the Island United they received their usual story relating to recent events as well as their own period dur- ing Church. Then there is the future vacation Bible School for 3 to 11 year olds. July 29 to August 2 Guides receive awards Collette Bertrand, Jen- nifer Best, Melissa Bramham and Laura DeKoning for the past three years have had fun and worked hard to receive their All Round Cords. They were tested 'in two challenges, Adventure and Voyageur, each of which had four categories - camping and outdoors, community, home and world. Another require- ment was the completion of several general in- terest badges including History, Outdoor Adven- ture; -Cook, Junior Camper, Fire Safety, Citizen and Keep Fit. The girls learned about service in the communi- ty and visited the Senior Citizens home with favours at special times of the year. The All Round Cord is the highest award given to the 9-12 year old Girl Guides before they move on to Pathfinders and work towards their Canada Cord. At the Island United there are growing plans to promote the Building Fund. At present, there are 3 moving projects, tickets issued by Choir members for interesting items, a chicken barbecue in August. A 'Share of Wealth' every Sunday when people donate excess products or items that someone else may wish to use and pay a reasonable amount as they wish. The "Friendship" U.C.W. is already mak ing preparations for the Fall season. As they have meetings in the afternoons and need care for small children the 3rd Wed. of every month, they would like to hire two ladies to babysit at this time starting in September. It was also nice to see The beautification of Scugog Township continues as this group of Brownies from the 3rd Port Perry group planted the official 75th Anniversary Guide Roses in front of the Community Nursing Home damper on weddings again the only daughter of Syd Chandler. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Martyn were pleased to have Wayne and Joanne Brethour with their 2 children, Catharine and Leslie from Peter- borough for the weekend The "Head" U CW will meet Wed. July 3rd at the home of Clara Dowson. It will be Pat Fulcher's group with Chairperson, Beryl Pearce. There will be detailed directions re the Strawberry Supper for July 10.
