Blackstock Area News by Joyce Kelly On Sunday June 30th a family picnic was held at the home of Neil and Elaine Bailey in honour of her mother Mrs. Ruth (Johnston) Thompson 80th birthday. Those in attendance were her two sisters, Mrs. Mary Naylor, Beaverton and Mrs. Grace Davis, Toronto, her two brothers John and Joan Johnston, Manotick and Jim" and Gwen Johnston, Peter- borough. Also present were Grant's two sisters Mrs. Vera Warmington and Mrs. Alba Currie both of Beaverton. From London, Ontario were cousins Gordon and " Muriel Wonnacott and Dr. Kingsley Johnston of Lindsay. Other guests were Jack and Marion Marlow, Dundas, Brian, Patricia and Deanna Wilson, Milton. These two special awards won cash donations donated by the O N.O Most Improved students Mr. Fis's class - Sherri Bouillon and Mr Thompson's class Clayton Hayman Mrs Dorothy Venning presented her trophy and prize to Stephen Dearborn for Academic Achievement Cindy Leach and Kns Bayley received O N O. prizes as two worthy students who had not previously won a prize The Nestleton Women's Institute prize for the most improved penmanship was receiv: ed by Blaine Sleep The Athletic Trophies were also presented to Esther Kelly as Girl Athletic and to Kevin Gibson as Boy Athletic in the Intermediate Division. After the formal part of the programme the students enjoyed the first dance with their parents after which the parents left for the students to en- joy a time of fun together. A delightful and memorable evening. Yes, Mr. Hinch you have reached that mystical plateau - no doubt about it... Many of the students are unwinding in various ways - one group spent a weckend in the Fenelon Falls area at a cottage and two groups enjoyed the challenge of White Water Rafting on the ot tawa River. On Wednesday Mrs. Maxine Hoskin -enter- tained three grand- daughters and three great grandsons. Guests were Mrs. Sandi Hoskin and Christopher of Manilla, Mrs. Shefpy. Gouin, Toronturand Mrs. Patti Hoskin, Evan and Patrick of Bowmanville. On Tuesday Dick and Edna Oldfield, Ann, Amy, Scott, Todd and Tara of Wisconsin were guests of Dick's cousin Joyce, Gerald Kelly and family. During the day several of the other cousins of the area call- ed and visited with Dick on his first visit to Cart- wright where his grand- mother Essie Vance lived. Lorne and Maxine Hoskin were Saturday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Davis, Solina.
