Due to an oversight by the Greenbank Man ager, the Gamblers missed the affiliation deadline for O.AS.A competition this year and had to look elsewhere for provincial playdowns. The O.A S.A. affilia- tion deadline is June 15th while the O.R.S.A. deadline in July 1st which enabled the Gamblers to enter this competition. The O.R.S.A. (Ontario Rural Softball Associa- tion) is associated with softball Ontario and is limited to towns in On- tario with less than 10,000 population. The categories in O.R.S.A. are A-B-C-D and it is not yet known whether the Greenbank team will be classified as "A or ""B" To enter "B'" the team must be drawn from a population of not more than 4000 and at the time of writing, the ORSA Executive could not decide whether Greenbank and Port Perry's population would total over 4000? More details on this in next weeks paper. The major difference in O.R.S.A. competition is that all players must come from a seven mile radius of the home play- ing field. Unfortunately, the Gamblers have to drop four of their players due to this rule as Steve Foster, Roland Osske, Darryl Hudgin and Gary Baker all reside outside this radius. Also the Gamblers connot use Trevor Till or Chris Cookman in the BLACKSTOCK [ TRACTOR & TRUCK PULL AT BLACKSTOCK FAIR GROUNDS July 5th - 6th ... 6:% p.m. sharp ADMISSION Adults $3 00.Children under 12 $1 00 PRIZES: $100, $50, $30, $25 & $20 CASH For entry forms and information contact Mrs G Kelly, Blackstock (416) 986-4257 FRIDAY, JULY 5th: Stock 4x4's Powder Puf! &11.0001b Vintage Tractors Pro Stock Tractors Moditied Tractors & Trucks SATURDAY, JULY 6th: Modied 4x4 s Modiied 2 Wheel Drive Trucks -- Vintage Tractors Stock Tractors trom 10.000 Ib & up Pro Stock Tractors Modified Tractors - 4 Wheel Drive Tractors *SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL® 7 500 Ib Stock Tractors -- Local Tractors 8,000 Ib Highway Tractors 22 -- PORT PERRY AR -- Wednesday, July 3, 1985 ~ Gamblers won't play after missing deadline ORSA series as Trevor Till has signed with the Oshawa Juniors and Chris Cookman has signed with the Port Perry Midgets and no player can sign with two teams However. the rest of the Gamblers will be on hand to try their luck in Ontario Rural Softball Association play and their pitching and defense could still take them a long way. Don Phinney and Hugh Johnston will share the catching duties and Russ Korbak and Ken Goreski will be on the mound. The infield will have Don Beaton, Foster, Brian Till and Roddy Real while Neil Rodd, Greg Rodd, Den- nis Romeril and Ray Meisner will patrol the outfield. The team will be coached by Steve Foster and his assistant will be Ron Winslow. Only time will tell how far the Greenbank pit- ching and defense can carry the team. In North Durham Fastball League action John the Gamblers are still rolling along in first place and in fact, are stll undefeated. Last weeks action saw Russ Korbak shut down the Zephyr Royals in a game where the Gam- blers battered four Zephyr pitchers. Trevor Till had a total of nine runs batted in, including a grand slam homer off fastballer Tom Sweet. On Thursday night the Gamblers travelled to Mount Albert where Roland Osske was the story of the game. Roland threw a no hitter at the 'Mounties' as he bested the Mount Albert pitching duo of Dave Sinclair and Dave Case. Osske only pitched to 22 batters as heawalked one man on a 3-2 pitch, other- wise he threw a perfect game.
