N., 655-3331 (Just 2 miles north of Taunton Rd.) game with lots of end to end action Michael Willams scored ATJ's lone goal. The game end- ed in a score of Little Bri- tain 1; ATJ Tools 1. SOCCER ON THE ROAD Pee Wee Boys On Tuesday July 9 the Port Perry Vachon 'Pan- thers' travelled to Darl- ington to play Hampton. Despite having 80 per- cent of the offence in the first half, Port couldn't get the ball past the tall Hampton goalie and at the half time whistle Port was down one goal to nil. The second half was on- ly underway two minutes when Hampton scored from a long direct free kick. With the wind in their backs the Port team was caught up field on several occasions when Hampton kicked it over their heads and on- ly some fast scrambling by the defence stopped Hampton scoring. The first scoring opportunity for Port in the second half came at the 16 min. mark when Vince Tripp booted a booming shot from 19 yds. out just passed the post. Mike Toye was a constant threat on the right wing but the tall Hampton goalie was able to in- tercept almost all the' passes in the centre. Some fancy dribbling by James Stubbs created several exciting moments but this even- ing it appeared that Port couldn't buy a goal. Michael Butt was in goal in the second half for Port and was unlucky to have three goals scored against him. Michael made several diving saves from the feet of the charging Hampton for- wards. Unfortunately, at the final whistle the score was 4-0 for Hampton. On Sat. July 13, the Vachon 'Panthers' played in a tournament in Uxbridge. They played 3 games. Their first game was a 9:00 a.m. against Whitby. In the first half Whitby came on with a very strong forward line and despite the offensive play being evenly split bet- ween the two teams, their shooters were able to put six between the posts before Jamie Stubbs put one behind the Whitby goalie at the thirty eight min. mark. Whitby again showed their strength and scored six min. into the second half. Jamie Brown tallied for Port ten min. nursery garden centres 1625 Dundas St. W., Whitby, 668-8190 (Just east of Durham Rd. No. 23) later but Port couldn't maintain the rally and Whitby scored twice more to make the final score Whitby nine and the 'Panthers' two. Port's second game of the day was played at 12:00 against Pickering. Port really showed their stuff against this team playing a very strong of- fensive and defensive game and a good team effort by every member of the 'Panthers' Michael Toye had in- jured his arm in the first game and still played a strong game on defence. The whole team put up quite a fight with good end to end playing and came out on top with a score of 4-3 for Port. Jamie Brown played a strong game getting all four goals for Port. The Panthers third and final game was played at 3:00 against the host team, Uxbridge. The play swung from end to end all through the first half with both teams coming very close to scoring on several occa- sions. Alec Cranmer opened the scoring for Port at the thirty-four minute mark and Ux- bridge tied the game with just one minute left in the first half. Late in the second half, both teams were visibly tiring when Uxbridge silenced the Port Perry supporters by scoring their second goal. Ian Thompson played an outstanding game in goal and made several spectacular saves when the fast-footed Uxbridge strikers raced behind the tiring Port Perry defence. With just a few minutes left in the game, a direct free kick was tip- ped round the post by a diving Uxbridge goalie and robbed Port of a super chance to tie the game. Two minutes later a two man break-away by Uxbridge managed to slip the ball under a div- ing Ian Thompson to bring the final score to three to one. The team would like to thank the parents for their support along with the coaches and Mr. Tripp with his fine repor- ting on this team. Everyone had a super day with some fine soccer.
