July 17 Gord Lewis Motors - 7 Ted E. Bear - 2 A very good team ef- fort by all the players with Gord Lewis coming out on top. Scoring for Gord Lewis were Aaron Levy with 4 goals, Bradley Davis 2 goals and Kevin Cochrane with 1 goal. Scoring for Ted E Bear was Shane Norton with both goals. Bruton's 1.D.A. - 1 Willy's - 0 This was a very close and tight game for these two teams. Aaron Stiller got a beautiful goal with two other nice attempts that did not count for Brutons. All members of the team played a great game. Cameron White, Marqaux Romeril, Michael Vader and Rodney Greenough were excellent goaltenders for Willys with good strong kicking by Cindy Verschuuren. Port Perry Star - 2 Lions Club - 0 A good close well played game by these two teams. Port Perry Star's Kevin Pike scored both goals. Henrietta Wonder had a tough head for this game and Tyler Wooton almost got a goal. Keep trying everyone. Melissa Robinson made some good saves on goal for the Lion's Club with Mathew Brown doing an excellent job as centre. Good team effort by all. SQUIRTS Wed. July 17 Whitby Mall Video - 2 Heather's Live Bait - 0 A good game by all teammates. Scoring for the Video team were Jay Tredway and Richard Kemminca with one goal each. For Heathers, Dwayne Rombough, played well with strong kicking with Calvin Hammett and Jeffrey Clark making some good saves. Brian's Towing - 7 Canadian Tire - 0 A well played game by both teams but Brians proved to be too strong for the Canadian Tire team. Scoring for Brian's Towing were Adam Hunter 2 goals, Todd Parry 2 goals, Chris Raines, Andrew jacobsen, and Darryl McEnaney each scored one goal. Great defensive work by Matt Phoenix. Darryl McEnaney, a new player, moved up from Minis and was a real asset to the team. The Canadian Tire team played well but were unable to score. ATOMS Thurs. July 18 Port Perry Maintenance - 2 Denny Metals - 0 lan McClelland and Jeff Andrews both played an excellent of- fensive game scoring one goal each for the Maintenance team. Lind- . say Parry and Karen Kett played awesome on defence. Mark Mathews played a good game on wing with all the players playing well together as a team. Goalkeeper Jousha Bramham played a strong game for the Denny Metals team. Steven Desautels on defence, Kendra McCrae in midfield and Rob Romano on the forward line all made a strong effort. A.T.J. Tools - 9 Kinsmen - 1 Sean McEnaney played an excellent game with 4 goals along with teammates Michael Willams 3 goals, Lee Whitter 1 goal and John Hall 1 goal. Mark Cosway, Mike Pashley, Peter Kooger played ex- cellent in mid-field. Tif- fany Reed, Tanya Towns and Neil Hancock work- ed well on defence. Bran Lemieux played ex- cellent in goal stopping 2 penalty shots. Duane Empringham played a good game for Kinsmen getting 1 goal for his team. SOCCER ON THE ROAD Mosquito Girls Lake Scugog Lumber team had a home game Wed. July 17 against Bowmanville and played extremely well as a team. The Port girls came up winners with a - score of 4-2 Gretchen Cornish scored all four goals for her team. Women's Team On Wed. July 17 Port's team played Pickering Village at the Scugog Soccer fields. Port Perry girls came on very strong with a score of 5-0. Scoring for Port were Heather Muir, Ronda Martens, Monica Webb, Terry O'Neil and Heather Agnew all with one goal each. Lions Club Bantam ball feam catches second win The Port Perry Lions Club Bantam Softball team for the second con- secutive year has won the annual Cobourg Legion Bantam Softball Tournament. Lead by the strong pit- ching of Dave Burnett and Craig Venning, and strong hitting by the en- tire team, the local Club won all three games for the Championship. In the first game in the morning the Bantams defeated a good team from Springbrook by a 5-3 score Craig Venning picked up the win allow- ing 6 hits and striking 9 hits off 2 Springbrook pit- chers with Bobby Orr and Brad Menzies each collecting 3, while Dave Culbert, Jamie Mahoney and Darren Fulford each had one hit. In the second game of the Tournament, Port Perry easily defeated Trenton by a 7-3 score. Dave Burnett started for Port Perry and pitched hitless ball for four inn- ings before retiring, with Raymond Shier finishing - the game. Dave Culbert had 3 hits with Bobby Orr adding two, singles went to Danny Rankin, Jeff Oke, Keith Roberge, Steve Durham and Dar- ren Fulford. This win put the team in the Cham- pionship game. For the second year in arow the local team fac- ed a strong team from Napanee and defeated them 6-2. Dave Burnett survived a shakey first inning when he allowed 2 runs to pitch an outstan- ding game allowing only 4 hits and striking out 7 Napanee batters. Dave Culbert again led the team with 2 hits in- cluding an important hit in the fourth inning that drove in 2 runs with 2 out. Bobby Orr continued his strong hitting with 3 more hits giving him eight for the Tourna- ment. Steve Durham, Dave Burnett, Keith Roberge, Brad Menzies and Craig Venning each added hits in this ex- citing victory. The team played a strong tournament Led by strong arms defensively with many fine plays in the field, with Darren Fulford making an outstanding throw from centre field in the first game to *'cut- down" a Springbrook runner at home plate. This Tournament win was a complete team ef- fort with all the boys con- tributing to the wins. Coaches Wayne Venning and Ted Culbert are sure this type of play will carry them into the 0.AS.A. play offs in a few weeks. Port Perry Legion played in the Senior 'A' tournament to gather some valuable ex- perience and get a taste of the high cahbre of play. Port played the minimum 2 games in the double-knockout tourney, losing to Tour- nament Finalist Guelph 2-1 and the host Oshawa Blues 4-0 In the loss to Guelph, the Legion Squad played well enough to win as Lawrie Williams pitched a superb game in the 2-1 defeat Port left runners on 3rd base in the 1st and 2nd innings without scor ing Guelph scored once in the 3rd inning with Port tying itn the 5th on a single by Todd Wilbur and a triple by Rick lovans Guelph eventual ly won it in the bottom of the 7th on a single, bunt and another RBI single In Port's second game they faced the host Blue's coming up short 4-0 Port faced pitcher Brad Ringette a pick up from Elliot Lake, one of Ontario's best pitchers Port started newcomer Al Heintzman who was plaqued by some shakey fielding allowing only one earned run. Earlier in the week Port faced Oshawa Juniors in a home and home set winning 8-7 and 86. In the home game Wednesday night, Port down 7-3 scored twice in the 7th and 3 times in the 9th for the victory The winning hit was supplied by Scott Wilbur. Thurs- day night in Oshawa, Port jumped to an 8-3 lead and held on to win 8-6.
