Inter "A" Semi Final series by a score of 3-0. After the heart break- ing 13 inning game in Greenbank last week that Wardsville won by a 1-0 score that tied the series at a game apiece, the Gamblers went to Freelton with their backs to the wall. And for five innings the two teams picked up where they left off in Greenbank as neither team was able to push a run across the plate. In fact since the 6th inning of the first game in Wardsville the Gamblers went a total of 20 con- secutive innings without scoring a run off the of- ferings of Jamie Hind. However, on this day the Gamblers were not to be denied and they final- ly got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Pit- cher Russ Korbak drew a base on balls to start off the inning and Ron Winslow came in to run for Korbak. Neil Rodd hit one through the middle to move Winslow to third and catcher Don Phinney cashed the run with a clean single to right field to give Greenbank a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Neil Rodd led off with a single to left field, was sacrificed to second by Phinney and scored on Hugh John- ston's line shot to center and it was 2-0 for the Gamblers. Then in the eighth inn- ing Ray Meisner hit a double down the right field line and scored Greenbank's third runon Russ Korbak's clean single to left centre. The Gamblers out hit Wardsville by a 12-2 count but could not pick up the hits to put the game away until the late innings. We have menus to suit any AT IT'S BEST! Planning Your Wedding? He was particularly tough in the top of the 7th inning when Wardsville loaded the bases with the score at 1-0 for Green- bank and two out. However, the veteran hurler reached back and struck out the dangerous Ken DeGraw. With the exception of the seventh inning Korbak was never in serious trouble as the Gambler fielders were very sharp on defense when Ward- svile managed to connect with Korbak's offerings. Neil Rodd led the Gambler offense with three hits with Brian Till picking up a pair of safeties. Single hits went to Don Beaton, Greg Rodd, John Foster, Ray Meisner, Russ Korbak, Don Phinney and Hugh Johnston. Greenbank had to play the game without centre fielder Dennis Romeril who was sick with the flu bug on the weekend. The Gamblers now meet the winner of the Aberfoyle versus Water- ford series for the O.R.S.A. Inter "A" championship and this series will get underway this coming week with good possibility of a game in Greenbank this weekend. At the time of writing, Aberfoyle was one game up on defending cham- pion Waterford and is playing the second game tonight. In North Durham Fastball action the Gamblers first round op- ponents are Claremont Legion with games this week in Greenbank Mon- day and Claremont Tuesday. Other quarter final match-ups have Good- wood vs Udora Shamrocks, Claremont Blues vs Brougham and Sunderland against Zephyr Royals S ' ' TROPHIES ° | and ] | ENGRAVING | ! SPORTS i !
