Ont. horse trials at Bethany Hills The Bethany Hills Hunt is hosting the An- nual Ontario Training Championship Horse Trials Sunday, August 25, beginning at 8 a.m. at CFRB Farms, the junc- tion of Hwy. 35 and 115. (approx. 10 m north of 401 and 2m east of Mosport). The public is welcome to enjoy a day in the country, watching the three phases of this equestrian discipline - Dressage, Cross-Country and Stadium Jumping. Admission is $3.00 per car which includes park- ing and a program. A Haspitality Center is available to assist spec- tators who are un- familiar with this type of competition. 150 horses and riders are expected to compete throughout the day in the Training, Starting and Preliminary Divisions, with the spotlight being on the Training Cham- pionship Division. Ap- proximately 800 people are expected to attend the days activities which will conclude approx. 5 p.m. "Eventing," as it is commonly known, is an Olympic Sport, and these events provide the basis of training for our Olym- pic Riders as well as the growing number of recreational com- petitors. We expect to have at least 3 or 4 of the Olympic riders who represented Canada at the Los Angeles games last year. The Cross Country Phase of the competition may be the most spec- tacular for the public to watch. It consists of a 1 to 3 mile course at a speed of a gallop, over varied terrain and fences such as ditches, steep vertical banks, combina- tions and gates. All the obstacles are solid and cannot be knocked down. Spectators are allowed to walk the course and watch each jump from a specified area. The winners of each division are determined by a combination of scores from each of the three phases--Dressage, Cross Country and Stadium Jumping. We encourage the public to try something different, -- enjoy a day in the country watching the Training Champion- ships. Support not only our Olympic riders, but those to come, and final- ly the hosting organization-- The Bethany Hills Hunt (one of approx. 12 areas in On- tario hosting this type of competition). This event is held under the rules of the Canadian Equestrian Competition. PAUL D. FARQUHARSON B.A. LL.B. LAW OFFICES OF RISEN. ESPEY & FARQUHARSON LORD SIMCOE PLACE Suite 1C- 57 Simcoe St. S., P.O.
