Community Interests George and Ella Bowers of Nestleton, spent an enjoyable week _ with Rae and Dorothy Carson at New Liskeard They also visited with Stewart and Helen Dor- rell of Charlton. Arnold and Jean Williams, Nestleton, and Ross and Peggy Adams, Oshawa, were recent guests of Rae and Dorothy Carson as well. Constable Jerry Bowers, Peterborough, Helen Vine and Debbie, Port Perry, and George and Ella Bowers, Nestleton 'visited Mrs. Frances Sutton, Orono and Mrs. Rosie Lunn, Oshawa, who are holidaying for a week at Elm Lodge Jerry Bowers has purchased a cottage at Valentia and is driving back and forth to work in Peterborough He 1s enjoying cottage hfe very much. . Recent dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs L Malcolm, Nestleton, were Mr. and Mrs Ted Hoar of Leskard Road, Orono. After dining they attended the Academy Theatre in Lindsay and saw a comedy entitled, "No Earthly Business." Florida winter friends visiting with Roy and Doris Nottingham of Caesarea, over the weekend included Mr. and Mrs. Russ Thomas, Sprucehead, Maine, USA, Mr. and Mrs. Lon Smith of Seaforth, On- tario and Mrs. Hilda Fruch from Detroit, Michigan, USA. Rae and Dorothy Car- son, New Liskeard, were guests with Arnold and Jean Williams for a few days visiting relatives and friends. While there a family party was hosted by Arn and Jean. N. 128-1113 Helen Vine, Port Perry, and the guests Rae and Dorothy Fall Fairs Although the weather wasn't ideal we con- . gratulate the Blackstock (Cartwright) Fair Board for an interesting as well as successful Fair once again. Many residents from this area were there in full force to give their support - their 120th annual fall Fair. Port Perry Fair is geared' ready to go this last long summer weekend (Labour Day) - Saturday, August 31 to Monday, September 2nd - a three day event - with many attractions for all ages. Try to attend - you won't be disappointed. Nursing Home Residents Entertained On Wed. afternoon last with forty to fifty residents of the Port Perry Community Nurs- ing Home and Villa - ac- companied by their nurses - gathered at the beautiful home of Norm and Bernice Mairs east of Nestleton - via the Freeman Bus Co. The afternoon was spent relaxing in the sun- ny, lovely surroundings and viewing the gorgeous flowers grow- ing about the pond in pro- fusion. The residents were well entertained by Bruce and Myrtle Snelgrove of Port Perry on organ and violin with Ethel Freeman leading the singing of old familiar numbers. After the enjoyable afternoon refreshments were serv- ed by the Pine Ridge Garden Club who hosted this interesting event. We do commend them' (Caesarea Card Party With a good atten- dance for the Ladies Auxiliary card party Wed. evening the results were: First prize Carl Gimblet - 86. Second - Doris Rohrer - 81. Low - Patti Thistel - 39. A real nce lunch was served and all enjoyed the diversion. Birthday Celebration A surprise birthday celebration was arrang- ed for Dan Read, Scugog Point. on Sat evening last with over 20 relatives and friends on hand to enjoy the festivities Wife Cathy, had everything well planned for a complete surpnise for Dan when he and a friend came nome from a fishing trip Lots of gifts and a lovely cake added to the thnll of a festive evening Our best to Dan this coming year! Nestleton United Church Decoration Service A good attendance was on hand at Nestleton United Church Decora- tion Service held on Sun- day. August 18 at 2:30 p m. Many were present from a distance and en- joyed greeting old friends of long standing and catching up on all the news We welcome back Rev. Dale and Anita Davis from their holiday period - have we ever missed them! They look great - but we know holidays are never long enough to work everything in that has been planned. Rev. Dale was our speaker and gave an enlightening ser- mon on 'Living Stones' for the annual memorial service. Gail Hiemstra accom- panied by organist Gwen Malcolm gave a fine ren- dition of two favourite sacred numbcrs "I'll Walk With God" and "Until Then."" We thank Gail for her gift of song. Our sincere apprecia- tion to Arnold Williams for doing such an ex- cellent caretaking job - we were proud of the ap- pearance of the cemetery. Also - a thank you to the Cemetery Board for their part in this memorable day of warmth and fellowship. Family Capers Norm and Bernice Mairs, Nestleton, were pleasantly surprised to have four couples friends of Midway Trailer Court, Largo, Florida, call on them on Saturday morning. On Sat. afternoon, Norm and Bernice hosted the Kent picnic with approx. 30 present Relatives were present from Newark, Delaware, US A, Stayner, Owen Sound, Guelph, Sun- dndge, Milton, Thornhill, Toronto, Raglan and Nestleton. This was Ber- nice's side of the family Don and Norma Frew, Nestleton, attended the Highland Games at Fergus, on Saturday August 10th and enjoyed the day. Don and Norma Frew and Olive Heaslip. Port Perry, had dinner at Haugen's Restaurant on Sunday evening. and a pleasant visit as well. Neta Fish, Nestleton, spent a lovely day on Sunday at her son Calvin and Yvonne Holland's home 1n Bowmanville, when the family - 17 in all hosted a beautiful birth- day party for her Many exciting gifts and a delicious birthday cake all added to make this a special occasion Warmest wishes to friend Neta for many more from this area. Norma Wilson, Dun- troon, and Sam and Mabel Cawker, Scugog Point Rd., were pleased to be dinner guests recently with two couples - Dan and Ruth Girardi, Nancy and Ken Bragg and Grant and Merna Cawker and Cathy of Oshawa. Very delightful dinner parties! Caesarea Community Church With a fair congrega- tion - service at the Caesarea In- terdenominational church opened by sing- ing Holy, Holy, Holy. A fine discourse presented by Rev. W.H. Crawford, D. TH. D.D. entitled "Power - But No Produc- tion" taken from Scrip- ture - Judges 16: 4-20 read by Daniel Pugh Jr. Mabel Cawker - organist. We trust Mrs. Harriet Tricker a faithful member - who hasn't been well - will soon en- joy better health. The new Hall is coming along and the committee would like some good help this week. They are ready for the roof - so do what you can to assist with this im- portant work. Nestleton Women's Institute Enjoy Live Theatre On a lovely summer afternoon, Aug.14, 17 members and guests of Nestleton Branch dined at the Bonfire Restaurant, Lindsay. Two birthdays were celebrated - Winnifred Davison and Neta Fish - and a decorated birthday cake was cut and served for dessert. Happy birth- day was sung by the group. During a break - after a cordial welcome by President Norma Frew - kducation and Cultural Convener Gwen Malcolm presented com- ments on the Motto - "Life is like a cake -- you can ruin it by leaving something out.' In her remarks Gwen said Humour is one ingre- dient we do not want to leave out - for humour is the leaven of life. Let the habit of laughter be car- ried from youth to old My Sweet Temptation real champion mare age. During the busy years sometimes the humour gets lost, but it is So important lo always find time for it in our lives. We'd better break out of that shell and buy a silly hat, laugh at a zany Joke or grab the brass ring at least once in our lifetime. If we don't what will we have carried from youth to old age. The 'roll call" was answered by naming a cultural event enjoyed After the meal the members and friends at- tended the Kawartha Summer Theatre at the Academy to see the show "Cake Walk" - a comedy directed by Carol Chris- john, which was much enjoyed. A day of fun and pleasure for all. Nestleton Presbyterian Church Student Susan Swann conducted the morning service, Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. She spoke on "The Bible - the Source of all Knowledge." Student Brant Brown assisted. Psalm 114 was used and Scripture 1 Peter. Shirley Scott - organist. Next Sunday, Aug. 25 Rev.
