There is one signifi- cant rule change in Junior C hockey teams this season. The Mo- Jacks will be able to sign any player from Durham Region as a non-import. The only exception would be players from Ux- bridge and Bowmanville which are also in Durham. But the rule change means the team will be able to sign players from Oshawa, Whitby, Picker- ing and Ajax as non- imports. Each team in the loop will be allowed four im- port cards during the season. Team spokesman Mur- ray Parliament said last week the import rule changes should help to strenghten teams in the loop, but he stressed that the MoJacks will con- tinue to build the nucleus of the team around local players. It is expected that more than 50 players will turn out for the training camp. Invitations have been sent out to all eligi- ble players from last year's team along with many players from the Port Perry area. However, the camp is open, and anyone is in- vited to attend. The Modacks first game of the regular season will be in Port Hope on October 10, and the first home game at the Scugog Arena is Sun- day, October 20 when the Lindsay Muskies are in town. Team officials hope to line up four pre-season exhibition games, pro- bably with Uxbridge and Lindsay, but dates and clubs have not yet been finalized Greenbank Gamblers up one in championship The Greenbank Gamblers are one game up in defense of their North Durham Fastball league Championship. Last Tuesday night in Goodwood, the Gamblers squeaked out a close 4-3 decision over Goodwood- Uxbridge Auto Wreckers to draw first blood in the best 3 out of 5 champion- ship final series. Greenbank and Good- wood finished one-two in the league standing so it is only fitting that those two teams should fight it out for North Durham Fastball League supremacy. Roland Osske went the route on the Gambler mound and had a two hit shutout going into the bottom of the sixth inning when a two out infield er- ror opened the gates for Darryl Norton to pound out a 2 run home run and put Goodwood back into the game. In the bottom of the seventh inning with one man out, Adam Young hit a double and after Mike Kelland grounded out to first, Barry Ferguson cashed Young to make the score 4-3. Centre fielder Don Ferguson was walked to put runners on first and second and then Steve Yake grounded out to se- cond to end the game and Greenbank came home with a 4-3 win. The game had been scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when Ray Meisner started the. Gamblers off with a dou- ble over the first base bag. Don Phinney singl- ed to put runners on first and third and Brian Till singled home the first Gambler run. Hugh Johnston doubled home two more Greenbank runs but was thrown out at third base as he at- tempted to make his two hase hit into a triple. In the sixth innigg Greg Rodd was safeon a throwing error, Don Beaton singled him to third, where he scored on a wild pitch from Good- wood pitcher, Darryl Norton. This gave Greenbank a 4-0 lead and they hung on for the 4-3 victory. KAREN E. HUNT ELECTROLYSIS Permanent Hair Removal Waxing Now Available. Greenbank swept through league play undefeated and ousted Claremont Legion and Brougham in straight games in the semi-finals. So they are just two games away from hav- ing an undefeated season in North Durham Fastball League Play. However, it will be no small task to overcome Goodwood-Uxbridge Auto Wreckers in straight games as the Goodwood team has played excellent ball all year behind the pitching of Darryl Norton and Dave Jackson. Games two and three of this series go this week in Greenbank on Monday night and Goodwood on Tuesday. If further games are required, they will be played in Green- bank at the earliest opportunity.
