This Saturday will be the Ride-A-Thon on 25 kilometre trail ride from Hoskin Stables, Blackstock, to raise funds to cover the cost of riding lessons, special equipment and in- surance for the disabled riders. This seventh an- nual event is carried out by the Durham Region Horseback Riding for the Handicapped Association. The September meeting of the Blackstock UCW after- noon Unit met at the home of Florence Larmer with 16 present. After a lovely dessert, Jean Adams opened the meeting and read a poem, "Today is the First Day of the Rest of Your Life."' She read the Bible story of the Pro- digal Son and gave com- ments on it. The hymn "Thank You O God' was sung. Many meetings were announced. Dora Martyn led the theme. The study of Canadian Indians was begun. The meeting closed with the usual closing hymn. 0O.N.O. The September meeting of the O.N.O. was held at the home of Karen Swanson. Follow- ing the Trivial Pursuit fun, the July minutes were read and the treasurer's report given. Group No.l is in charge of convening the Tractor Pullers Banquet on November 26 for ap- proximately 200 people. Motions carried to keep our Commencement awards the same as last year and to donate money for more bleachers for the fair grounds. Plans are finalized for the 35th anniversary celebration to be held at the Recreation Centre on October 19th. The even- ing will begin at 6 p.m. with a delicious dinner followed by entertain- ment, then a dance with a light luncheon to be served later in the even- ing. All former O.N.O. members from the past 35 years are invited at a cost of $25. per couple. We hope that many will be able to join us for what promises to be a most enjoyable evening. Those wishing to attend are asked to call Aileen VanCamp, Barb Byers or Ellen Russell on or before October 8th. We are all looking forward to renewing friendships with former members and celebrating 35 years of O.N.O. in Blackstock. Roll call was a mug ex- change with many beautiful mugs being claimed. Karen then demonstrated the art of Stencilling and showed us some of her folk art work. 'We were then given the chance to try our hand at stencilling after which Karen serv- ed a delicious lunch which was enjoyed with a social time.
