Mabel Cawker presented the excellent devotional on Pornography, assisted by Bernice Mairs, Jean Williams, and Marion Hall. Hymns "O Master Let Me Walk With Thee' and "'Take My Life And Let It Be" were sung. Jean Williams, president of the Afternoon Unit, then introduced our guest mi 60 happy Congratulations and best wishes to George and Ella Bowers of Nestleton who celebrated their 60th wedding an- niversary on Friday, September 20th, in the Nestleton Community Centre with approx- imatley 200 relatives and friends on hand to wish them well - a real milestone in their lives. This lovely event was "hosted" by their family. During the evening daughter Dorothy Car- son read a unique story in poetic form re the family, which she com- posed - a real master- piece! She missed her calling! Grandson Herb Vine sang two ap- propriate numbers speaker, Anita Davis, who spoke on Social Con- cerns, - a most infor- mative talk, and enjoyed by all present. A lively hymn, "Our Joy Is In - The Knowledge' sung to a familiar tune, by the choir members, closed this part of the meeting. Business Portion In the absence of Sec'y, Barb Weir was ac- ting secretary for the evening. The Roll Call - "Bring a Tea Towel" resulted in a generous response. Neta Fish gave a gratifying report of our finances. It was decided "The Rose" and "The Lord's Prayer' accom- panying himself on the guitar. Mabel Cawker gave some humorous thoughts re anniver- saries, etc., and presented a beautiful plaque to George and Ella - a gift from the Nestleton United Church. Congratulatory recogni- tion was received from her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and many other dignitaries - as well as a host of friends. Nestleton United Church Women catered for this special occasion - serving a delicious assortment of elegant food topped off with an- niversary cake, tea and coffee. The U.C.W. will continue Christmas Boxes and Operation Scugog the same as last year. The General Ex- ecutive will continue on for 1986. Several notes of appreciation were read including one from Laurie (Malcolm) Wells of New Zealand. Members were reminded of the Mid-Week Event at Harmony Church, Oshawa, -Nov. 5 and 6. Business Session Minutes were approv- ed as read and the finan- cial statement given, by the Sec'y Treas. Cards of appreciation were sent to Lynn McLaughlin and Debbie McCall re Graduation from High School and University. 1986 Church Calendars were ordered. The Ladies' have an attrac- tive quilt for sale Dorothy Lee was thank- ed for caring for the flower boxes in front of the church which are still lovely.
