A column devoted to recognizing events and decisions affecting the residents of Scugog Township, and rating them with a “Thumbs Up, or Thumbs Down!” Thumbs Up for the great ambassador Port Perry's Santa Claus is for the merchants of the downtown. Scugog's jolly old man has been greeting kids and adults alike to his little house in front of the post office every weekend throughout December for the past 18 years. Young and old, big and small, they all get a dose of Christmas cheer... and a special treat as they pass by his house. See ya next year Santa!!! Thumbs Down to the apparent inconsistency and enforcement of the business signage along Queen St. More than I one storeowner has voiced their frustration with having been put through the hoops to conform to the town- Ship’s sign bylaws... only to see other businesses, such as Tribal Voices, hang out a plastic sign for months on end. If the township's aim is to keep the street attractive... the bylaw and regulations regarding signs should apply to everyone. Thumbs Up to the Scugog roads department for the quick and efficient job they did of clearing up the streets and side- walks throughout the township after “the big storm of 2007.” More than 24 cm of snow fell in about 12 hours clogging all of Scugog streets and roads. But our ‘guys’ had the main arteries cleared by moming and secondary streets later that day. Thanks a lot guys - great job!!! Thumbs Down - on the other side of the snow issues, we've had a number of people complain about snow clogged side- walks in front of many residential homes for days after the storm. So, we're giving a thumbs down this month to anyone who failed to clear their sidewalks in a timely fashion, forcing pedestrians to walk along slippery, wet roads. Thumbs Up to Marina and Julie Brock for their concern about the future of our planet. The owners of Brock’s Depart- ment Store in Port Perry have initiated “fully degrad- able” plastic bags and reusable fabric bags at the store for packaging customer purchases. The attractive fabric bags are manufactured from recycled pop bottles. What a great idea! Hopefully more businesses will follow their lead. 995-51" OSHAWA, ONT. JAN.07.92pgsindd 17 ii Integrative Health Centre Health Report A New Day Dawning The beginning of a new year always presents an opportuni- ty to reflect upon the previous year and to plan and decide your intentions for the coming year. It feels like a new begin- ning. For those familiar with the sacred circle or the aborigi- nal medicine wheel, you are starting out in the east, a new day dawning. An opportunity to change your habits or choices that do not provide you with a happy and healthy life. Isn't that exactly what we all aspire to in our lives? Of course there are many things that could be added to the list but, for a mo- ment, strip away all the stuff that clutters our lives, isn’t the essence of daily joy, a desire for a happy and healthy life? It is a simple statement yet, for each and every one of us, our lists to achieve this end would be diverse in content. It is time to separate the needs from the wants and the should from the woulds. Foundationally, without a healthy body, mind and spirit, you cannot accomplish as full and rich a life as most of us desire. Disease and imbalance do not need to exist. Decide to shift this part of your life. Many will be rushing out, after indulging during the holi- day season, to join the local health club. A great choice as exercise is an essential part of being healthy and free of imbalance. But why, after one month, do the statistics show we lose our motivation to con- tinue on this path? We get lazy, life takes over, priorities shift from you to what and who? At Sunleite Integrative Health Centre, we provide a compre- eite itural Medicine hensive assessment with your first appointment, which will provide you with insight as to why you are self-sabotaging or not able to decide your priori- ties with regard to your health and welfare. | will provide a detailed protocol for your next steps and will be proactive to determine existing and poten- tial imbalances through scien- tific means within the clinic. My review with you will not be lim- ited to your inability to sleep or the cardiovascular imbalances you experience. By the end of our time together, | will know your family, your work, your childhood, complete health history, what you eat for break- fast and how many cups of cof- fee you drink, the stresses in your life, if your home is damp and moldy, the joy of your life, what your intentions are. | will also utilize natural medicine analysis to determine the state of your blood and urine, blood pressure, physical imbalances and can also provide hair and stool analysis, provided by a professional lab, and infra red thermography in our clinic for breast and full body scanning. Year's Resolution Number 1: Write a list of in- tentions. All of the things you would like to change or acheive in 2008. Review the list every couple of months. Make the changes you intended to, stick by them and watch how life can be changed through the simple task of manifesting your good intentions for self and others. If you need support and guid- ance through this process, you know where we are. Consider this...... Thermography Clinic Fibrocystic, large, enhanced or dense reasts do not interfere with the scan.
