She is a member of the Block Parent program, a parent supervisor at the school and a volunteer typist for the school's year book. She told the Star that with her ac- tivities at the school, she has been considering election to the Board for some time. One of her main concerns is the need for a new school in the Port Perry area. "The need is bordering on the point of desperate," she said, noting that there are 11 portable classrooms at RH Cornish and eight at Prince Albert School. ""The plans for a new school are Men' a Wean Lid. Monday Tuesday Thursday 10 to 6 friday to 9 Saturday to 5 Four contest two seats on Board of Education in the hands of the (provincial) government. It is crucial for the government to get moving on this now," she stated. She added that some of her other concerns include the need for up- dating classroom equipment and the viability of Cartwright High School and Epsom Public School. She said the formation of ac- comodation committees to study these two schools is the proper ap- proach for the Board of Education to take. Mrs. Dfew said that while she has some concerns about the province- wide full funding issue to Separate Schools, it's a matter for the provin- cial government. For the past several months, Mrs. Drew has been attending Board of Education meetings for information and to familiarize herself with the way the system works. She said she has also had numerous informal discussions with teachers and board of education officials. A resident of Port Perry for the past 17 years, Mrs. Drew is active in community organizations such as the Choral Society, Friends of the Library and the United Church Choir. She and her husband Richard have three children, two in high school and one in elementary school. She believes that a trustee must be prepared to spend at least 30 hours per week on the job. 'I have the time for it and I'm prepared to make that kind of commitment," she said. This will be her first attempt at election to public office.
