Mariposa was committed to help Now the cost to Mariposa was quite maummum As Manposa was able to secure full subsidy leaving our share of the cost at less than $5.000 This cost was well worth the cooperation of Scugog in which was appreciated by all concerned My feehng as that sometimes the tarl-end of mumcipahties are The judge who desernbed one ac Lion as. bemg brutal marks tor satety [twas not an un action at simply appeared remos ed no sate harsh Ihe team reports from the judges regarding both scenarios comphmenting us on the many ongimal techmques used and the ethiciency ol our methods I hope vou can somehow express this to the people of our Township They can have tull conhidence in ther tire department recenned positive Yours truly Rov Teer Scupoe Volunteer Fire Department and Member ot the Vuto Fxtrication Team Interest "burning assue" in this election campaign and itis "dehiberate con- thet of anterest'" and resulting municipal disablement It 1s an issue facing all candidates and one which all must face 1 will have more to say on this matter later Respectfully. Joel W Aldred, RR. 3, Port Perry forgotten but councils are always in- terested in their taxes. Robinglade taxes total approximately $55,000 In which Mariposa would certainly not want to lose This applies also to Mariposa Estates, Sun Valley and Pleasant Point who I have been hearing rumours are afraid of being dropped from Mariposa and absorb- ed into Durham I. for one, who has property within the area would be one of the first to bitterly complain because our taxes are already far too high and I am sure if this did happen, they would defimtely escalate with hittle or no more services Councillor Doug Fish, Mariposa Township A crucial problem Dear Su This 1s my second letter to the editor concermng the controversial Lake Scugog weeds First, | would hke to say that I'm glad people are starting to use this medium to voice their opimons on the most crucial problem facing this area today The purpose of this letter is a hope that I can reach at least some of the people who hve on the lake Tt seems to me that the majority of the peo ple who hve on Lake Scugog and en joy the many water sports the lake oifers. not to mention the beautiful sunsets, are waiting for an "angel of mercy to come out of the sky and take the milfoil mess away Well | hate to disappoint you, but this 1s just not going to happen While we are waiting and complaining and complaimng and the weeds are becoming more widespread as George Woods pointed out in his let ter | firmly beheve that the most part of the milford problem can be controlled by us. the people who use the lake All that there remains to do 1s to just get together. make plans and raise funds There are various methods available such as cutting (get together and buy or rent a cut ter and hare the work and main tainence praying practical and imexpensive and safe contrary to belief plus others A control pro gramme for the View Lake areas beng planned for 1986 If everyone will co operate. we will control our weeds Other areas of the lake can do the same thing We will all however. have to mutually agree on a method, whether it be spraying or cutting As George Woods challenges the government sector. I vigorously challenge the people of Lake Scugog Cottager's Associa tions on other lakes many in the US get together and control weeds in lakes The same can and would be done on Lake Scugog dot legally though: Lake Mr Woods. I can hear the knell ringing off in the distance for Lake Scugog The only way we are going to make our lake beautiful again as to take on the problem ourselves For this to happen. the a thitude has to change As my Anatomy Professor at | miversity pointed out we Canadians have an attitude that the next guy 1s going to look after us He said however that we have to look after ourselves that Another candidate seeks election to Separate Board Catharine Tunney has announced her candidacy for trustee to the Durham Region Roman Catholic Separate School Board She resides on Bagot Street in Brookhin with her husband Kevin and their two children She 1s a member of St Leo's Parish and 1s the Program Convenor for St Leo's School Parent Advisory Committee "Over the next few years, monitoring the need and timing of a Separate Secondary School in the Town of Whitby will be a matter of prime importance," says Tunney Having closely followed the Plann- ing process and residential grcwth within Whitby over the past ten vears, Cathy feels she has the background knowledge which will enable her to make informed deci- sions on this major issue. Another area in which Tunney feels she can assists in improving communications between trustees and parents, teachers and Separate School supporters. "Discussions between the various Parent Com- mittees and their trustees prior to policies being implemented 1s one way of achieving this," she states She is trained as a Dental Hygienist. Presently, however, she 1s at home and she sees this as an advantage to the Catholic School supporters in that they wili be get- ting a full time trustee available anyume to give assistance as well as answer questions and respond to concerns Swanick of R R 3.
