The annual Santa Claus Parade 1s just around the corner and the Borelians are hard at work on their production of "The Little Prince" which will be a delight for all ages and all members of the family. Aptly described as "a play for children and smart adults,' the pro- duction is being directed and pro- duced by Lynn Sparling who says it is a play with a message. "It tells us all that we have to take the time for our friendship, that what is important in life is often in- visible to the eye," she said inan in- terview during rehearsals at Town Hall 1873 last Sunday afternoon. Adapted from the classic novel by Antoine de St. Exupery, "The Little Prince" is described by Mrs. Sparl- ing as a "morality play' that follows the adventures of the little prince on earth and in the universe as he searches for true friendship. It will have an appeal to adults and children, and even very young kids will be fascinated by the move- ment, the colour of costumes and sets, and the special effects. Some of the main characters in this Borelian production include Monika Franssen as The Little Prince, Dave Ellis in three roles, Christine Rollo as the snake; James Dyer as the pilot; Ron Halligan as the lamplighter; Maija Hammett as the rose and Adele Armstrong as the queen. Port Perry model Stephanie Butt has a role in the play and six young girls round out the cast. Some of those working behind the scenes on this play include Dave Sparling as technical director, Dave Litt on sets, Carl Platten on graphics, Sandra Blakney with costumes, and Lana Douglas with make-up. As well, the Borelians, in an effort to get young people interested in community theatre will have several people working as assistants on this production. According to Mrs. Sparling this is just the second time the novel has been performed on stage as a play. and it has been up-dated to give it a modern flavour. All tickets will be $3 each and dur- ing the final performance on November 23, winners of the poster contest will be announced. There will be a total of five perfor- mances of 'The Little Prince' star- ting November 15 at 7:30 and cont)- nuing with two matinees at 2:30 on November 16 and 17. There will be an evening perfor- mance November 22 followed by the final matinee at 2:30 on the 23rd. Members of the cast from the Borelians "The Little Prince" took time out from rehearsal Sunday afternoon for a photo. Five performances of the play will be staged in November (see story) and it is suitable for all ages. In front are Christine Rollo, Monika Franssen (who plays the Little Prince) and James Dyer.
