i Sb Fil EE TY [YN 3 ol ¥ 7&8 a Fa * $ 3 Le Es LN rd I was born in Holland in 1939. In 1952 1 immigrated to Canada with my family. At present I am married and have two daughters. As a fami- ly we have lived in Caesarea for the past 12 years. In the past I have owned and operated a taxi business and a restaurant. At present my wife and I successfully run Scugog Appliance Repair. I also drive a school bus. My reasons for running for the seat of area councillor are: (A) Taxes - My taxes for this fiscal year took a whopping 46 per- cent jump. With my business I meet a lot of people and most of them are quite unhappy about this. If elected I would seriously look into this mat- ter as well as tax matters in all of Scugog Township and hope to find ways of unburdening taxpayers. (B) Lake Scugog weeds - Our pro- perty sits on the shores of Lake Scugog. This summer dark patches of weeds were clearly visible from our property. Unless this problem is rectified soon it will hurt our entire Township. I have talked to several on ways to solve this problem. Again I would put forth my sincere effort to clear up this matter, since it also reduces the value of our home. (C) Industry - I would look for ways to attract more industries to move to our beautiful Township. Who wants to drive miles to go to work. This would also help us finan- cially by rendering tax dollars into our pockets. Enough said, people of Scugog. If elected, I will do my best for all the good people of the Township. I would have a listening ear for all concerns. Hopefully you will elect me, but | can only say 'may the best man win." I taught school for a number of years, serv- ed on the library board, was a foun- ding member of Central Seven, a Museum volunteer, a Port Perry Fair assistant, an elected trustee and Chairman of the Board of Education for four consecutive years. I continue to work with and for Central Seven and all facets of the Historical Society. As trustee and Chairman of the Board of Education I represented all the people of Scugog and learned the tax structure regarding your tax dollars. I have always been concern- ed with getting value for each tax dollar and know that this can hap- pen only when your representative is prepared to do an enormous amount of investigation. I am ready to do exactly that! I want to retain our rural at- mosphere. Orderly growth around our hamlets, green space (bowling green), preservation of farmland, good water, clean air and commer- cial development are some of my concerns. We must improve, protect and preserve Lake Scugog. Our tourist dollars and cottager income cannot be ignored. Finding a solution to the problems with Lake Scugog will take co-operation between the three levels of government. I am both willing and able to represent the people of Ward 1 as an effective councillor for, the Township of Scugog EE -- BEVER) 5; HILLS _A | . ro! BN A *3 $44 995 ITS A STEAL! HAROLD WESTERMAN I am running for Councillor for various reasons. | have always been interested in politics and for that reason | took a course in 'Municipal Administration," to better unders- tand local politics and to be an effec- tive voice on council. There are several items that | would like to see done and that | feel have been put on the shelf too long. One area of concern is the road con- ditions in Ward 1. There are several roads that need repairs made to them. Another area that I feel should be tackled immediately is the weed control in Lake Scugog. I think we should push for the job to be done now as it is hurting our tourist trade. Why should we spend money on a municipal marina today if we won't have a lake tomorrow. I would like to see more promotion of small business for our area. | would like to see affordable housing in controlled areas so it doesn't con- flict with farming, which is the backbone of our country. I am a 41 year old General Motors worker. | have v orked there for 23 years. My wife, Nellie, has worked in Port Perry since just before we moved to the area. My wife and two children have given me moral sup- port in my desire to run. I have been involved in minor sports for 4 years in this area. col CAMPBELL Councillor Township of Mariposa Freedom of Information Fairness to ALL Ratepayers | would appreciate your support ...
