me lt" dlp 32 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 5, 1985 Halloween night of magic Nestleton-Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Hallowe'en - A Night of Magic! Well- Hallowe'en has come and gone for another year. The weather was clear and brisk as hordes of goblins, witches, ghosts, and all kinds of fearsome wee folk bombarded our door on Scugog Point Rd., with "trick or treat." Without exception, the youngsters were all well behaved and polite and every single one left with a "thank you" for their treat. Doesn't that bring back memories of the days when the goblins were different! To-day's kids are terrific and their parents should give themselves a pat on the back! Birthday Celebration A "gala" family birthday party was held on Sunday, at the Water- mill Restaurant when Norm Mairs had a birthday on Monday, Oc- tober 28th and daughter Diane Slute on Wednesday, October 30. Those present for this special celebration were: Rob and Carol : Mairs, Steven and Katie, John and YOUR CHOICE FOR COUNCILLOR -- WARD li Experience Community Involvement Dedication ON NOVEMBER 12th -- VOTE Howard Hall Diane Slute, Jeremy Jay and Julie, R.R.1, Oshawa and Norm and Ber- nice Mairs of Nestleton. Our "very best wishes" to Norm and Diane for many more happy occasions' Pottery and Jewellery Open House and Sale Edgar and Anne Emerson of Nestleton, are holding 'Open House" on Saturday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov. 17 from 1:00 p.m. - 8 p.m. in their Pottery Studio at their Nestleton farm home. They invite interested folk to browse and see what they have to offer for sale. Coffee and cookies will be served! 25 Wedding Anniversary Celebrated Our very best wishes to Jack and Karel Nottingham of Nestleton, who have just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on October 5th - planned and arranged by their family. A Mock Wedding was an entertaining feature. The day after the party, Jack and Karel flew to Japan and Hong Kong for three weeks - a most interesting trip taking in many "highlights". They visited a pen pal of Karel - Kimiko Okihiro - the Imperial Palace in Kgoto and many other points of in- terest. They also met two local girls - Sheila O'Rielly and Heather Hodgins from Prince Albert who are teaching in Tokyo, Japan. What an exciting way to spend an anniversary! Our best to them! Durham West District Women's Institute Celebrate The Durham West District W.I. celebratrated their 85th wedding anniversary in Solina Hall on Oc- tober 23 with approximately one hundred guests and members present. Rika Wygerde and Gwen- dolyn Malcolm attended from the Nestleton Branch. The event was planned by the Curators as a Tweedsmuir Tea. District President Mrs. H. Prescott welcomed all and introduced Bon- nie Cowle, Kay Stephen and ac- companist Pat Prout, who took the members "around the world' with their lilting songs from various countries. Their hats changed with each song and were gaily tossed in- to the audience for someone to wear, until at the end of the per- formance a photo was taken of all wearing these hats. Most en- joyable. Entertainment was provided by Providence Shaw Branch with two excellent skits depicting an In- stitute Meeting in 1900 and a 1985 W.1. meeting. These were thought- provoking, humorous and well ac- ted out. Mrs. M. Wiseman, Area President, and Mrs. M. Bradley, Area Sec't Treasurer cut the an- niversary cake, which was decorated in Blue and Gold. Each Branch had their Tweedsmuir History book on display surroun- ded by "Institute Memories." The Curators were dressed in old fashioned gowns. District Curator, Mrs. T. Baker, dressed in a wed- ding gown of yesteryear gave a brief resume of the District Tweedsmuir History. Mrs. Percy Van Camp, a member for 60 years was presented with flowers and Mrs. Kathleen Watts rec'd flowers as the most recent member present. Both are from Blackstock. The Curators served Anniversary Cake, Ice Cream, Coffee and Tea in the lower Hall. All agreed it was a great Anniversary Party! Family Leisure Hours The Sam Cawkers of Scugog Point Rd., were evening dinner guests with Grant and Merna Cawker, Chris, Curtis and Cathy, Oshawa this past Tuesday. A fine evening of visiting!
