It is the first time Mrs. Smitherman has seen one of these poppies bloom in November. June is their usual time. 'How appropriate that it appeared just in time for Remembrance Day," she told the Star. The scoring was opened by Brian Appleby and he was unassisted. Scoring their only goal of the game, Little Britain managed to tie the game at 1 goal apiece. But in the third period, Port Perry fought back and in doing so scored 4 more goals. The first of the four was scored by Jarett Harman, assisted by Brett Puckrin. Graham Sullivan scored Port's 2nd goal of the 3rd period ral- ly and he was.assisted by Sean Bradbury Eric Grosvenor scored Port's next goal on a shot that caught the post during a scramble in front of Little Britain's net, he was assisted by Jan Heyes. Port Tied 3-3 with Cobourg On Sunday, November 10, Port Perry travelled to Cobourg for a league game and they tied 3-3 in a hard fought game. Cobourg scored twice before Port Perry got their first goal of the game. It was scored in the second period by Jan Heyes. assisted by Sean Bradbury Then on a very well executed passing play, Jarett Harman scored Port's second goal on a pass from Sean Bradbury who received a pass from Eric Grosvenor on a power play. In 1985 the Club doubled its membership to fifty bowlers. When the new facility on Simcoe Street, North becomes operational in 1986 the Club plans to have one hundred members. At this meeting the members ap- proved a resolution to the effect that, in 1986, it will be starting on the 'Second Century' of Lawn Bowling in Port Perry. The resolution states that any person who is a member or becomes a member of the club in 1986 will be a Charter Member. A special plaque or scroll will list these Charter Members and will be permanently on view in the Com- mon Room of the Club House. Membership is open to men, women and students of any age. Lawn bowl- ing is the summer twin of winter curling and has been a significant recreational activity since Biblical times. The Chairman of the Nominating Committee, Jim Martin, presented a slate for the 1986 Executive posi- tions. The Executive, elected for 1986 are: Past President - Grace Love; President - Stan Rickard; Vice President Bob Storry: Secretary - Edna Beckett; Treasurer - Lillian Midgley; Tour- nament Secretaries - Alma Cox, Rose Willoughby; Directors Clayton Love, Mel Meulemeester, Bill Owen and Gord Prentice. In 1984 the Executive appointed a Building Committee of twelve members with Bill Blair as Chair- man. Although Bill passed away on December 19, 1984, he got the Com- mittee off to a good start. His en- thusiasm and guidance encouraged the Committee to undertake the pro- ject to build new Greens and Club House. Now, in 1985, a year later, Harold Martyn as Chairman of the Building Committee was able to report good progress on the building program. At this time the Greens are seeded and growing, the Club House is completed on the exterior except for bricking. It is expected that bricking will be done before winter. Water, sewer, hydro and telephone services are all installed A white chain link fence encloses the entire Greens area Ten trees donated by Uxbridge Nurseries have been planted. The grounds are mainly levelled and the driveway mostly gravelled. The cost of the whole project 1s budgeted at a httle over $100,000 Funding has been available through grants by Wintario (Provincial) and New Horizons (Federal). local organizations, individuals and Club members have been very supportive There are two existing fund rais- INE programs Since Lawn Bowling has been ac tive in Port Perry for over 70 years, it 1s a part of the heritage of the community To recognize this fact the Club has set up a Heritage Brick Program through which Heritage Bricks are sold at $100 each Each brick will have engraved on it the name of the donor, or someone the donor wishes to name This donation 1s a deductible item for Income Tax purposes Fifty bricks have been sold Fifty more bricks are needed and the Club would appreciate some help in locating bricks of the type which is required John Beckett at 985-7733 can be contacted for further information The engraved bricks will be used to build a fireplace or suitable wall inside the new Club House The Club 1s also sponsoring a draw for the "Dinner of the Month for Two." Trophies were donated and presented by Grace Love for the highest standing in the regular schedule to Lillian Midgley and Jim BANTAM IGA -5 Emmersons - 3 Bill Brown's IGA club added a fifth win on Saturday morning to the tune of 5-3 over Emmersons. Mike Griffin leads the way with 2 goals and an assist; Gerry Douma, John Sturman and each had a goal and an assist too, Derek Slack add- ed the other goal - Eric Douman picked up two assists. For Emmersons, Jason Weinhold scored twice and Paul Turner add- ed the other goal. Mike Haines and Darcy Head added one assist each. Final 5-3 for IGA. Consumers Gas - 4 Cochranes - 3 Consumers Gas were flying right at the start and caught the Trotters sleeping by ringing up four quick goals, before the Trotters could get on track. They came back with three goals but fell short of tying it up, closing 4-3 to Consumers. Scoring for the Gas Works - Craig Free, Trevor Solomon, Neil Mark and Adam Danter. Dale Leask add- ed a single assist, while Vince Cris- cione, a pee wee, picked up two assists. Jon Rodway scored twice and Ken Smart added a single - while Ron Halligan picked up the lone assist. IGA - 6 Consumers Gas - 2 On Saturday, November 2nd the Bundle Carriers of 1GA took the game at heart and scored a bundle of goals in a 6-2 win over the Trotters. With Mike Griffin and Bobby Orr each scoring two, Ed Toffin and Mike Toye added singles. Picking up assists were Toye with two, Tof- fin, John Sturman and Gerry Douma one each Duane Leask and Allan Shepstone scored one for Consumers Cochranes - 3 Emmersons - 3} Jon Rodway led the attack for Cochrane Trotters as they took an early lead, only to have Emmersons fight back and tie at 2-2 on goals from Chris Logan and Darcy Head Then Jamie Mabley put the Trotters ahead again only to have Head ring up his second goal to knot the game at 3-3 Picking up assists for Cochranes were Halligan with two, Rodway and Mabley one each Three players added assists in this hard played game for Emmersons Head. The trophy for the Lawn Bowler showing the best sportsman- ship was donated by Douglas Gower and won by Harold Martyn. The auditors report was given by Pat Love and Myrtle Prentice. They reported that the financial records as kept by Sally Martin, Lillian Midgley and Muriel Rickard were complete and accurate. To conclude the meeting the members enjoyed an evening of Court Whist. Muskies scor- ing John Jamieson and Matt Phoenix 1 goal each and an assist going to Jeff Jamieson. Pearce's lone goal by Mike Pashley assisted by Matt Morris and Mike Nichols.
